Director of Data Engineering - Client Data Health

Overview:
Mastercard’s Test & Learn team is seeking a Director of Data Engineering focused on the Data Health of Test & Learn clients. In this role, you will play a critical part in ensuring the quality, integrity, and readiness of client data for experimentation and analytics. You will manage multiple high-performing teams of data engineers, partnering with cross-functional stakeholders to design scalable solutions that support impactful decision-making and deliver superior client outcomes.
The Test & Learn team within Mastercard's Services organization aims to build industry-leading business experimentation software that brings sophisticated analytic techniques to business users around the world. We are rapidly expanding our product offerings and innovating on how we deliver Test & Learn solutions to our clients.
Engineers work in small, flexible teams. Every team member contributes to designing, building, and testing features. There are no rigid organizational structures, and each team uses processes that work best for team members and projects.
This hybrid position is based in Arlington, VA or San Francisco, CA, requiring three days per week onsite.

Role:
•\tManage multiple teams focused on delivering on-time, accurate, high-value, robust data solutions across multiple clients, solutions, and industry sectors.
•\tResponsible for ensuring Test & Learn clients have healthy data setups and ETL pipelines by owning and enhancing the Client Data Health Score.
•\tManage the identification, prioritization, and execution of data renovations to improve the health of at-risk clients.
•\tOwn and improve the internal JIRA support processes for supporting Advisors Client Services and Data Engineers with data-related issues for Test & Learn projects within the agreed upon SLAs.
•\tIdentify ways to upskills Data Engineers and BizOps Engineers in the latest coding best practices and ensure consistent code quality across the globe.
•\tEnhance big data pipelines using SQL, Python, R, SSIS and PowerShell to address complex technical challenges and seamless communication with several cloud storage technologies.
•\tLeverage new SQL Server features such as Column store Indexes, In-Memory OLTP, Incremental statistics, Trace Flags, SQL CLR functions, window aggregate functions, and parallel computing algorithms to reduce the processing time of multi-billion row data sets.
•\tLead large-scale efforts to improve the automation capabilities of the team. Identify and implement techniques to optimize and routinize repeatable tasks for Test & Learn and other D&S data setups. Collaborate with other teams to further data automation capabilities.
•\tAct as an expert data and technical resource within the team and region and provide mentorship and guidance to multiple teams and product areas.
•\tBuild trust-based working relationships with peers and clients across local and global teams.
•\tWork with other team leaders to create and implement the future vision of the team's capabilities and growth across multiple areas and functions.
•\tComply with and uphold all Mastercard internal policies and external regulations.

All Abut You:
•\tExtensive experience as a Data Engineer or in a similar role, with deep knowledge of data engineering concepts and methodologies.
•\tStrong hands-on expertise with Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMS), particularly Microsoft SQL Server.
•\tProficiency with at least one scripting language (e.g. PowerShell, Python)
•\tKnowledge of testing and validating data to ensure accuracy and consistency in data pipelines.
•\tAgile methodologies experience.
•\tDemonstrated skills in managing projects, people, and tasks across multiple geographies and business units.
•\tAbility to easily move between business, data management, and technical teams.
•\tAbility to quickly intuit the business use case and identify technical solutions to enable it.
•\tProven track record of leading and innovating on large efforts with demonstrated successes.
•\tAbility to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously and adapt to changing priorities.
•\tExcellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
•\tBachelor’s degree in a quantitative field such as Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Finance, or Business. Equivalent practical experience will also be considered.

In line with Mastercard’s total compensation philosophy and assuming that the job will be performed in the US, the successful candidate will be offered a competitive base salary based on location, experience and other qualifications for the role and may be eligible for an annual bonus or commissions depending on the role. Pay Ranges

Arlington, Virginia: $190,000 - $304,000 USD

San Francisco, California: $198,000 - $317,000 USD
