About this Job
Northwestern State University seeks qualified applicants for the position of Director of Counseling Services.
The position requires one to possess versatility in her/his professional skills not only in the area of counseling, but in administration as well. The Director is responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining programs that respond to the wide range of needs presented by college students, faculty and staff. The Director provides a variety of services for students' emotional, academic and professional development. These include developmental counseling, career counseling, crisis intervention, consultation services, instruction and supervision of graduate student interns. The Director is responsible for the supervision of the Counseling and Career Services staff, which includes the staff counselors and Graduate Assistants and student workers. This person will cooperate with the Natchitoches and Northwestern communities in developing drug and alcohol policy and programming.

Minimum Qualifications
+ Shall hold a master's degree in counseling, professional counselor license, supervisor certification
+ Shall have a minimum of five years of counseling experience in a mental health/counseling setting in higher education preferred
Job Duties and Other Information
Administrative Leadership & Management
+ Administration of the Office of Counseling Services to include supervision of staff and site supervision of and instruction to graduate counseling interns and Psychology practicum interns
+ Determine the goals and objectives for Counseling Services
+ Provide direction and supervision to staff in planning and implementing goals and objectives in each area
+ Supervise the evaluation of all Counseling programs
+ Establish the annual calendar of events
+ Plan and manage budgets
+ Support the professional development of counseling staff members
Direct Clinical Services
+ Conduct individual and group mental health counseling for students
+ Supervise on-call (24-hour) assistance to students involved in crisis situations, personal difficulties, suicide attempts, sexual assault etc.
Educational & Outreach Programming
+ Develop and implement seminars related to program goals (RA training, Gatekeeper training, etc.).
+ Plan and implement special activities related to program goals (Suicide Awareness, AOD prevention programming, etc.)
+ Provide educational outreach services to residence halls, student organizations and classes
+ Teach University Experience 1000
Community Relations & Collaboration
+ Act as liaison and consultant to the university community regarding the services of Counseling Services and mental health and student development concerns
+ Work with faculty/staff/administration in developing services suitable to NSU student mental health needs
+ Maintain contact with appropriate community agencies (mental health, churches, hospitals, etc) as collaborative resources for students
+ Serve on the Behavior Intervention Team
Professional Development & Compliance
+ Represent the University in appropriate professional organizations and maintain a program of professional development for self and staff
+ Maintain Iicensure and membership in appropriate professional organizations
+ Remain current in knowledge of counseling theory, techniques and diagnostic procedures.
+ Coordinate the creation of the Drug-Free Schools Biennial Report
Information Management & Resources
+ Supervise the development and maintenance of the Counseling library and website that will serve as a resource to students, faculty and staff
+ Supervise the maintenance of all student information safeguarding confidentiality of all records
Assessment & Quality Improvement
+ Provide for evaluation of program effectiveness through surveys of students and appropriate University personnel
Institutional Service & Support
+ Serve on University committees as designated
+ Support the university mission, goals, objectives and retention efforts
+ Other duties as assigned
