About New York Edge New York Edge (NYE) is the largest provider of school-based afterschool and summer programming in New York City, serving thousands of students annually across all five boroughs and Long Island. NYE also serves as a leading Community-Based Organization (CBO) in the NYC Community Schools initiative, partnering with school leadership to coordinate integrated supports such as expanded learning, family engagement, and wellness services to ensure students and families have access to comprehensive school-based resources. Position Summary The Director of Community Schools at New York Edge is responsible for overseeing the implementation of the NYC Department of Education’s Community Schools model across a portfolio of approximately 20+ school sites. Reporting to the Chief Program Officer, the Director provides high-level oversight of staff and programs, manages a team of Deputy Directors, and ensures that New York Edge functions as a fully integrated partner in each school community. The Director leads strategic planning, cross-sector coordination, performance oversight, and school-level collaboration to ensure a whole-child, whole-community approach to education. Key ResponsibilitiesStrategic Leadership & DOE Partnership + Serve as the primary liaison to NYC DOE leadership, school principals, superintendents, and borough teams. + Lead the implementation of the DOE’s Community Schools model, with fidelity to its core features: collaborative leadership, integrated student supports, expanded learning time, and family/community engagement. + Represent New York Edge at school leadership team meetings, community school teams, and other citywide and school-based forums. Program Oversight & Staff Supervision + Supervise Deputy Directors responsible for managing Community School Program Directors at each school site. + Ensure consistent, high-quality programming aligned with each school’s goals and the Community School Plan. +  Assess program needs and identify key content areas where Community School staff require additional training to enhance program quality and alignment. + Support staff professional development, performance evaluation, and leadership growth across the portfolio. + Foster a safe supportive and inclusive learning environment that promotes student well-being and community engagement + Provide on-site leadership and serve as the primary point of contact in the absence of the Deputy Director ensuring smooth day-to-day operations and continuity of service. + Collaboration with school leadership, DOE school-based administrators, district based administrators, community school representatives: parents, teachers, and student representatives, mental health providers, and others to align goals and strengthen partnerships. + Maintain open, responsive communication with all stakeholders to ensure that school and community needs are identified, addressed, and elevated appropriately. +   Assess program needs and identify key content areas where Community School staff require additional training to enhance program quality and alignment. Data-Driven Decision-Making + Utilize internal systems—including Salesforce—to track student participation, program delivery, and service outcomes. + Monitor DOE data (attendance, academic progress, behavioral metrics) to inform school-level planning and drive continuous improvement. + Develop and implement metrics to assess impact and ensure accountability at all levels. + Generate, analyze, and present data and outcome reports to internal teams and stakeholder committees to inform data-driven decision-making and continuous program improvement. + Design and lead a school-year kickoff event that introduces families to the Community School model, highlights available resources and services, and emphasizes the importance of their engagement in supporting student achievement. Family & Community Engagement + Collaborate with school staff and community partners to deliver wraparound services, including mental health, social services, and family resources. + Support culturally responsive, inclusive, and multilingual family engagement strategies. + Create opportunities for parent leadership and meaningful community involvement. Finance, Budgeting & Compliance + Oversee budgeting and financial management for the community schools portfolio, including DOE contracts and other funding sources. + Ensure compliance with all DOE and NYE policies related to staffing, reporting, clearances, and service delivery. + Work closely with finance and compliance teams to meet deliverables and manage risk. + Strong understanding of nonprofit budgeting and budget processes + Solid working knowledge of government contracts including cost allocation and cost reimbursement policies, and ensuring program spending is in adherence to such policies. + Lead the program team in the annual budgeting process, working collaboratively with finance, human resources and curriculum and other departments of the organization to design comprehensive and effective budgets for their programs. + Ensure program budgets are in alignment with organizational and program goals and objectives + Monitor spending against approved budgets and provide insightful variance analysis; work with program and finance team to address with budget and spending adjustments as needed + Partner with the finance team to present financial reports to senior leadership team about program financial performance + Communicate spending strategies with stakeholders and program teams to ensure fiscal accountability + Collaborate with principals in designing a comprehensive budget to support schools and provide high quality programming to the students Human Resource Collaboration & Staff Support + Partner with the Human Resource department to foster a positive, inclusive, and accountable workplace culture. + Ensure staff compliance with organizational policies, time and attendance, and the code of conduct. + Conduct regular check-ins with staff to provide coaching, support professional development, and enhance programquality. + Lead site-level responses to staff complaints, concerns, or incidents and escalate serious matters to HR as needed + Promote workforce retention by recognizing strong performance, addressing morale concerns, and cultivating a culture of growth and shared purpose. Development & Communication Partnership: + Collaborate with the Development and Communications team to elevate the visibility of the Community School model, identify community and school needs that align with donor interests, coordinate and lead site visits for potential funders, and contribute program content for public and private grant reports. Curriculum & Instruction Team + Implement New York Edge curriculum with fidelity across all program areas ensuring alignment with organizational standards and student needs. + All external curriculum recommended by a principal or other stakeholder must be reviewed and approved by the appropriate content-area Director within the CIT Department prior to implementation. + Participate in staff training on the ACT by Mosaic SEL model and ensure consistent, high-quality SEL practices across all sites. If the school utilizes a different SEL framework, familiarize yourself with the model and collaborate with school leadership to explore how NYE’s SEL approach can complement and enhance existing efforts where appropriate. + Participate in all New York Edge trainings and meetings, as well as district and community school meetings and trainings as made available. Ensure that all staff also attend required training. + Attend conference and professional development opportunities outside of New York City as appropriate. + Ensure that all curriculum, including any externally recommended by principals or stakeholders is reviewed and approved by the appropriate Director within the CIT team prior to implementation. QualificationsRequired: + Master’s Degree in Education, Public Administration, Social Work, or a related field + 7–10 years of progressive leadership experience in education, youth development, or DOE/CBO partnership roles. + Proven success managing school-based programs and leading multi-tiered teams. + Deep knowledge of Community Schools and public school systems. + Experience with budgeting, financial oversight, and grant compliance.
