Position: Director of Booking Department: Booking Reports to: General Managers FLSA STATUS: Exempt, Full Time Job Overview The Director of Booking is responsible for actively budgeting, booking, and overseeing a diverse range of events across Altria Theater, Dominion Energy Center and Stuart C. Siegel Center,. This includes partnerships with Nederlander National Markets, Resident Arts Organizations, national tours, concerts, dance, speakers, and outside rentals. Reporting to the General Managers, this role plays a key part in curating and executing a cohesive lineup of artistic presentations that reflect and engage Richmond’s vibrant community. The Director of Booking will manage the full event booking process from initial booking through settlement ensuring programs are financially sound and deliver exceptional experiences for both artists and guests. This position works closely with internal departments and external partners to support organizational goals, maximize attendance, and revenue. Venues The Altria Theater is a historic Moorish-Revival venue in Richmond, offering a stunning setting with 3,610 seats for concerts, Broadway productions, lectures, and private events. Consistently ranked a National Top 10 theater by Pollstar and Billboard magazines, it was also a *2025 nominee for Pollstar’s Theatre of the Year. The Dominion Energy Center is one of the Top Grossing Resident Company theaters in the country, home to the Richmond Symphony, Virginia Opera, the Richmond Ballet and others. The complex features the historic Carpenter Theatre (1,800 seats), Gottwald Playhouse (250 seats), and Mooney Hall (150 seats), providing flexible spaces for concerts, galas, receptions, and corporate events. The Stuart C. Siegel Center at Virginia Commonwealth University is a versatile, 200,000-square-foot facility designed beyond athletics use. While known for hosting NCAA games, it can be configured to accommodate 5,500 guests for concerts, receptions, corporate events, and family shows by blocking off one end of the arena. The venue offers a flexible layout, technical capabilities, and a central Richmond location, positioning it as the city’s premier large-scale indoor venue for non-sporting gatherings. Key Responsibilities: + Negotiate, draft, and administer Promoter and Rental contracts. + Develop, manage, and monitor programming budgets and pricing strategies while overseeing show advancing and ensuring accurate financial settlements. + Manage the venue’s booking calendar across all spaces, coordinating Commercial shows, Broadway holds, and Resident Company holds. + Serve as the primary liaison between Promoters and the Venue. + Collaborate with internal departments and external partners to ensure seamless event planning and execution. + Partner with department Directors and General Managers on strategic planning, work plans, and budgeting. + Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with Resident Companies, Promoters, Artists, Agents, and key industry partners. + Coordinate with the Director of Private Events regarding Booking Calendar Holds. + Adhere to and support all organizational policies, procedures, and core values. + Represent the Richmond market in local, national, and international forums and conventions related to programming and presenting, as requested by General Managers. + Maintain professional and collaborative relationships with colleagues, clients, and partners. + Communicate effectively in both written and verbal formats. + Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications & Requirements: + Bachelor’s degree or higher preferred. + Minimum of 5 years of experience in a multi-use, multi-venue facility. + Experience working in a non-profit arts environment is highly desirable. + Strong knowledge of performing arts disciplines with a genuine interest in continued learning. + Proven leadership skills with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment. + Excellent relationship-building, consensus-building, and team collaboration skills. + Strong fiscal management experience, including budgeting and event settlements. + Effective negotiation skills with artists, agents, and promoters. + Exceptional verbal, written, and presentation communication skills. + Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and general technology tools and Infor scheduling software. + Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize tasks with a high attention to detail. + Skilled in analytical thinking and interpersonal relationship management. + Maintains a high level of professionalism, discretion, and sound judgment. + Ability to remain poised and effective in high-pressure situations. + Willingness and flexibility to work evenings and event-based schedules including holidays ASM Global is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer, and encourages Women, Minorities, Individuals with Disabilities, and protected Veterans to apply.
