Job Summary

Dir Access Services plans, organizes, and coordinates patient access for Baylor Scott White Health (BSWH). This includes admissions, registration, insurance verification, financial counseling, bed assignments, scheduling, and preliminary records. It develops and implements strategies, policies, and procedures for access services in BSWH hospitals, clinics, and care facilities. It ensures accuracy in admitting information, accommodation assignments, and financial arrangements. It designs programs to improve quality, efficiency, and patient experience through standardization, process improvement, and technology. It manages insurance coverage confirmation to meet hospital policy standards. It minimizes financial risk to BSWH through policy adherence, staff training, and outcome monitoring. It ensures compliance with legal and regulatory requirements. It coordinates with medical, clinical, or financial departments to align patient access procedures with other BSWH activities.

An entity Director translates and implements strategic plans and goals for their area. Makes final judgments on operational matters and ensures goals are achieved. Recommends policies and organizational changes for the area. Plans and executes projects and initiatives that meet annual goals. Plans and directs department operations, handling staffing, processes, budgets, and costs. Manages and advises subordinates to meet schedules, resolve technical problems, and monitor performance. Oversees a larger, more complex organization or functional area than a manager. Often has one or more managers or supervisors reporting to them.

Essential Functions of the Role

Directs access services for assigned area of responsibility for BSWH.Recommends and implements strategic and operational plans and priorities for access services aligned to BSWH overall business goals.Directs registration, financial counseling, and cashiering functions for all assigned areas. Manages statistical reports and monthly return reconciliation processes.Manages and monitors vendor activities confirming access eligibility to minimize potential financial losses to BSWH.Develops and implements access services policies, procedures, processes, and guidelines for assigned areas.Monitors web-based or portal registration systems. Ensures workflows are efficient and transactions are processed timely and accurately for assigned areas.Manages the application and compliance of rules for third-party payers, Medicare, Medicaid, and government programs. Implements new or revised regulatory requirements.Collaborates with physicians, office personnel, associates, case managers, and others. Works with third-party payer review personnel to expedite the utilization review process. This helps avoid negative financial impact on the facility.Manages continuous improvement activities focused on standardizing processes and achieving performance targets. Reviews financials, including up-front collections, denial management, and bad debt reduction.Directs the implementation of access services system applications, process workflows, and associated training.

Key Success Factors

Bachelor’s degree in finance, business, or related field preferred.3+ years of experience in access services, revenue cycle, or related area.Experience in a leadership role preferred.Ability to develop access services and revenue cycle processes and controls in hospital and clinic environments.Knowledge of regulatory requirements for patient registration in hospital and clinic environments.Excellent customer and problem-solving skills.Working knowledge of medical terminology and hospital and clinic operations.Exceptional written, verbal, and presentation skills.
