Note: Benefits may vary based on position type and/or level **Job Summary** Reporting to the VP, CNO – DFW Central Region & Baylor University Medical Center (BUMC), the Director, Nursing Operations is responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating the nursing practice and clinical services for Baylor Scott and White Health (BSWH) at BUMC. Establishes and communicates the clinical strategic goals and objectives for assigned nursing units or clinical areas in accordance with the BSWH overall patient care goals and objectives. Develops and implements clinical protocols, nursing policies and procedures, new patient care models, and nursing quality improvement initiatives. Maintains and monitors clinical operational efficiency, standards of care, and patient service delivery levels. Ensures high quality patient care delivery in a cost-effective manner. Negotiates interdepartmental resources and communicates with other BSWH departments to ensure effective and efficient delivery of patient care. Collaborates with operations leadership, physician leadership, and other senior leadership to deliver patient care with a focus on ensuring high quality patient outcomes, improving patient experience, and achieving service excellence in healthcare. This position will be a strategically positioned member of our leadership team, playing a critical role in shaping hospital-wide nursing operations and system coordination as required. As previously shared, the role has several core responsibilities: - **Oversight of Rewards Staffing Integration:** Lead the operations of the float pool, ensuring consistency, accountability, and strategic alignment. - **Throughput Command Center Leadership:** Direct the flow of patients throughout the hospital, optimize capacity, and ensure that throughput metrics meet goals through strong cross-functional collaboration. - **Standard Work Development:** Establish clear, scalable workflows for House Supervisors, Bed Placement, and operational reporting structures that ensure 24/7 consistency. - **Transfer Center Liaison:** Act as the primary nursing and operations liaison to the system Transfer Center, improving access, placement coordination, and real-time decision-making. **What This Role Requires** - To be effective in this role, the selected individual must bring more than just nursing expertise. This position will require: - A seasoned nursing director with significant hospital operations experience in complex care settings. - Deep understanding of throughput dynamics and system-level coordination when necessary. - Strong executive presence and the ability to influence decisions across disciplines, departments, and reporting lines—both internally and externally. - Exceptional emotional intelligence and situational awareness, especially when guiding high-stakes, fast-paced operational decisions. - Superior communication skills—written, verbal, and interpersonal—with the ability to lead meetings, drive multidisciplinary projects, and communicate effectively with senior executives. - A proven track record of leading teams through change, optimizing systems, and delivering measurable results. **Essential Functions** - Directs nursing services for assigned area of responsibility for BSWH. - Recommends and implements strategic and operational plans and priorities for nursing - Monitors daily productivity, addresses variances from established standards, and adjusts to maintain established productive standards. - Leads the establishment, monitoring, review, and reporting of annual unit-specific quality improvement goals, and communicates to senior leadership, nursing quality council, and clinic quality council. - Investigates adverse events, reviews data and findings, assesses trends, and identifies opportunities for improvement. - Collaborates with non-nursing departments to establish processes and address issues that enhance patient care and satisfaction. - Conducts and participates in periodic clinical rounding to identify patient needs and communicate findings, including patient room rounds, environment of care rounds, and patient safety rounds. - Ensures compliance with all applicable legal, regulatory, licensing, and accrediting requirements for assigned area of clinical care. - Designs and implements metrics, dashboards, and tools to monitor service delivery and identify areas for improvement and education. - Facilitates communication within department and collaborates with nursing, medical staff, and operational leadership to ensure delivery of high-quality and safe patient care. **Key Success Factors** - Bachelor's degree in nursing or related field. Master's degree or Doctorate strongly preferred. - Experience in a leadership role preferred. - Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills. - Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills. - Proven expertise in hospital operations, capacity management, and patient throughput. - Exceptional executive presence with the ability to influence at all levels of the organization. - Strong emotional intelligence and demonstrated ability to manage change in complex environments. - Excellent communication skills written, verbal, and facilitation. - Comfortable interacting at all levels of leadership and with cross-functional teams **Preferred Candidate Profile** - Minimum of 5 years of progressive nursing leadership experience in a complex hospital setting, with the most recent experience at the Director level or above. - Demonstrated success in leading cross-functional initiatives and operational improvement projects. - Experience collaborating across multiple departments and clinical disciplines within a large, complex healthcare organization preferred. - Demonstrated executive presence and professional polish - High emotional intelligence and strong interpersonal skills - Ability to influence internal and external stakeholders - Skilled in leading meetings, projects, and driving results - Strong written and verbal communication abilities - Professional nursing leadership certification **Belonging Statement** We believe that all people should feel welcomed, valued and supported, and that our workforce should be reflective of the communities we serve. **QUALIFICATIONS** + EDUCATION - Bachelor's Degree + EXPERIENCE - (3) Three Years of Experience + CERTIFICATION/LICENSE/REGISTRATION - Registered Nurse (RN) + Basic Life Support (BLS), Cardiopulmonary Resuscitate (CPR): BLS or CPR Required.
