The News Director leads and supervises all aspects of news, weather and sports programming production.
Lead the vision for a fully integrated, 24/7 multiplatform newsroom with a strong digital first mindset.Develop and implement strategies that grow audience across linear, OTT/CTV, web, app and social platforms.Oversee the creation and curation of always-on digital content for our combined website, mobile apps, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram and emerging platforms.Manage newsroom operations in a collaborative and respectful environment.Adopt and train the team on new tools, how to best use the analytics and develop workflows to fuel our digital footprint.Set and uphold standards for editorial quality, visual presentation and brand consistency.Be proficient in ENPS, Premier as well as all newsroom tools.Foster & curate, the newsroom culture that brings innovation and accountability.Collaborate with station leadership on strategic planning to drive local news operations across broadcast, streaming, digital and social platforms.Observe, evaluate, critique daily linear broadcasts, website & social medial content.Educate, guide and enforce company standards and station guidelines for journalism, station equipment, sponsorships & paid content, and staff work conduct. Coordinate with station leadership to develop and execute integrated cross platform campaigns, including news integration and sponsorships.Mentor on air talent, a high-performing content team, including digital producers, MMJ’s, anchors, and editors. Performs other duties as assigned.Requirements & Skills:
• Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience.
• Fluency in English.
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
• Minimum five years’ experience in news programming production, with at least two years’ experience in a leadership role. (More or less depending on market size.)
• Experience guiding, directing and motivating subordinates, including setting performance standards and monitoring performance.
• Experience establishing long-range objectives and specifying the strategies and actions to achieve them.
• Ability to identify the developmental needs of others and to coach, mentor or otherwise help others to improve their knowledge or skills.
• Experience preparing and maintaining departmental budgets.
• Proficiency with computers, telephones, copiers, scanners, fax machines and other office equipment.
• Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Ability to effectively listen to fully understand employee needs and communicate with a team to shape a solution.
