International Risk and Control sits within International Card Services (ICS) which comprises of all the issuing functions across all 28 international markets excluding the US - colleagues operate across a variety of geographies and disciplines. ICS issues products to our Consumer and Commercial customers – the organization is an integral part of the global growth strategy for American Express; offering differentiated products and services is critical to our success and promises to drive significant growth and value through the delivery of innovative products, tailored to the needs of our customers. Our organization of ~500 colleagues helps our international businesses manage risk, respond to new regulation, and develop new products whilst creating and nurturing effective partnerships across multiple key stakeholders across the organisation. The organisation also leads an enterprise-wide International Financial Crimes Transformation and Privacy programmes.

Reporting to the SVP, International Risk and Control, this is an exciting position for a hard-working and highly motivated individual looking to progress their career at American Express.

The role will support the smooth implementation of the recent organisation changes , as well as ongoing effective operations and management of this complex, dynamic and growing pan-International organisation. In this role there will be critical focus on; providing clear and effective communications (within organisation and with key stakeholders), efficient business planning, organisation management, and strategy development.

 How will you make an impact in this role?

The Director Assistant will be a key member of the International Risk and Control Leadership Team. The role is ideal for someone who is proactive, highly organised, able to manage their own time and prioritise effectively, and can lead during times of ambiguity. This role is centred around building effective collaborative partnerships across many international markets and across our Issuing and Acquiring businesses. The Director will handle a broad range of complex business and management topics, working with the different teams within ICS, and other key stakeholders including Compliance, Finance, CEG, CA&C, Risk, and GCO, among others. 

Key Responsibilities include:

Responsible for the overall effectiveness of the International Risk and Control Executive Office Act as a central point of contact for urgent business issues, drive initiatives managed from the office of the SVP ICS Risk and Control. Support request driven from the office of executive leaders, and respond, often at short notice to a range of requests from multiple stakeholders across the enterprise Make recommendations and share insights with the Leadership Team on certain business priorities, ensuring follow-up steps and decisions are effectively communicated and implemented, while also building consensus with key stakeholders in the organization and across different markets and business units Directly manage certain day-to-day issues on behalf of the SVP ICS Risk and Control and ensure wider team projects are on track or have right support  Build partnerships across the Blue Box and act as a key interface for markets and business partners Overall responsibility for managing meeting content, agendas, and presentations, including updates to senior leaders and business partners Manage Opex/budgets, annual planning, year-end, and other centrally owned processes 

Minimum Qualifications:

Strong sense of integrity with ability to handle sensitive issues and maintain complete confidentiality Previous experience working within the Control, Risk, Compliance, regulatory environment or Executive Offices The successful candidate will be a proven strategic thinker who possesses the maturity and composure required to effectively communicate with senior management Outstanding leadership and relationship building skills with proven ability to influence without authority across all band levels and drive projects with little direction Understanding of the local market perspective, and experience working in an international market would be extremely valuable. Proven financial and commercial acumen including experience of annual planning and budgeting process Excellent communication skills both written & verbal Ability to work well under pressure, adapt to changing circumstances, make decisions quickly and juggle multiple priorities simultaneously in many cases working to tight deadlines, imperfect information, and high degrees of ambiguity to achieve outcomes with little guidance A positive attitude, a high degree of self-awareness, and a collaborative team player. Comfortable challenging the status quo, can understand the strategic vision and ability to retain a big picture focus, whilst being able to drill down into the detail when necessary
