The Director, Snow Surfaces Center of Excellence (COE) will lead a new COE that is focused on guest experience and operational execution across Vail Resorts’ snow surfaces functions (Grooming, Snowmaking, Terrain Parks). This role is about identifying opportunities for continuous improvement and implementing the best practices for operations, training, safety and growing our snow surfaces teams. This leader will also drive innovation and strengthen financial efficiency through continuous improvement in the use of resources, energy, and technology. This is a unique opportunity to lead change and build something lasting for the industry’s largest snow teams. **Job Responsibilities:** + Set the strategy for snow surfaces across our resorts—defining what great looks like and building the plan to get there. + Drive results by putting in place tools and systems to monitor performance—then acting on what’s working, what’s not, and what’s next. + Create the playbook for how snow surfaces teams operate: standard processes, role clarity, training programs, performance metrics. + Strengthen financial performance by improving resource use, labor efficiency, and energy management—particularly within snowmaking and grooming operations. + Champion operational excellence by identifying the best ideas across resorts and scaling them through shared tools, practices, and training. + Listen and learn from resort teams—creating feedback loops that help prioritize what matters most and keep people engaged and aligned. + Pilot new ideas and innovations—testing and scaling improvements that elevate safety, efficiency, and guest experience. + Foster a strong team culture of safety, pride, and high performance across all aspects of snow surfaces. + Collaborate across the business—working closely with all mountain operations leaders, and support teams. **Job Requirements:** _Knowledge and Skills:_ + Strong process orientation with a high level of detention to detail; effective ability to synthesize large amounts of data into learnings and actions. + A data-driven mindset—you use insights to make smart decisions and focus on what matters most. + Strong leadership skills—you bring people together, inspire change, and build trust across diverse teams. + Clear communication—you can explain complex ideas simply and connect with people at every level. + A passion for developing people—you're committed to helping teams grow, perform, and take pride in their work. + The ability to lead change—you know how to bring new ideas to life and help others adopt them with clarity and confidence. + Deep understanding of how mountain operations run—especially snowmaking, grooming, and terrain parks. _Experience_ + Multiple years resort leadership experience, or equivalent experience in like industries, preferably across the functions that make up snow surfaces (Snowmaking, Grooming, Terrain Parks) and ideally multiple years’ experience in snowmaking. + A track record of identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, quality, and team performance. + Experience managing costs, labor, and operational complexity across multiple locations or teams. + Proven success in building systems like SOPs, training programs, or performance dashboards that help frontline teams succeed. + Experience collaborating across departments and working effectively in a matrixed organization. ​The expected pay range is $103,596 - $140,119 + annual bonus + equity. This is the pay range we reasonably expect to pay for this position.
