Director, Tech Lead - Developer Portal

We’re on a mission to build a best-in-class Developer Portal to be used by our own development and product communities as well as by external developers and product professionals. The Developer Portal will become the business user and developer friendly marketplace to learn about Prudential’s integration capabilities, learn how to integrate with us, and perform the necessary activities to use our technology.

Your Team

As the Director, Tech Lead of the Developer Portal within the Application Patterns Team under the CTO, you will be responsible for establishing a strategic technical roadmap to empower business product teams in delivering next-generation product-based integration capabilities.

You will lead a team of engineers and contribute hands-on to deliver a best-in-class, scalable, aesthetically pleasing, and user-friendly Developer Portal. Collaboration with key stakeholders such as Product Owners, Tech Leads, Solution Architects, and Engineers from business application and product teams will be crucial in designing and implementing the Prudential Developer Portal.

You will act as the central hub in the hub-and-spoke model, providing the platform for business teams to build upon. Your role will involve leading by example, simplifying designs, and challenging requirements to ensure optimal solutions are created.

Here is What You Can Expect on a Typical Day

Lead a team of engineers in developing the UI/UX, API, automation, and other components of the Developer Portal.

Collaborate with the Application Patterns Product Owner to define the technical delivery roadmap for the Prudential Developer Portal.

Be in constant communication and sync with our businesses who will capitalize on the capabilities of the Developer Portal to build the best-in-class experiences to drive business growth and adoption of our integration capabilities

Provide expertise in front-end and API application development.

Partner with Enterprise Architecture and Information Security teams to establish best practices for delivering the Developer Portal in the public web space.

Drive the success of the product through metrics and customer satisfaction scores.

Maintain operational solutions to ensure production uptime.

Identify opportunities for simplifying the developer experience and supporting tools.

Cultivate an agile development mindset, promoting frequent small changes.

Ensure effective communication of changes and maintain a constant feedback loop with developers.

The Skills & Expertise You Bring

Bachelor’s degree in computer science or engineering or equivalent relevant experience

Extensive experience in Application Development, Engineering, Analytics, or similar fields.

Strong technical skills in:

Development, Automation, Infrastructure as Code

Java, Python, or similar programming languages

Terraform/CloudFormation or similar technologies

Web development technologies (e.g., HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React, Node.js)

Containerization (e.g., Kubernetes, Docker)

Observability, including metrics, logs, and end-to-end tracing

Cloud architecture and implementation (AWS, Azure, or GCP)

Serverless-first design patterns

Information Security (e.g., Authz, Authn, encryption, traffic flows)

APIs, both external and internal (e.g., Kong, Apigee, API Gateway)

Domain-driven design

Modular and reusable code

Agile methodology

Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.

Ability to effectively leverage diverse ideas, experiences, and perspectives for organizational benefit.

Commitment to continuous learning and improvement.

Insurance / Financial industry background a plus

Expertise in:

What we offer you:

Prudential is required by state specific laws to include the salary range for this role when hiring a resident in applicable locations. The salary range for this role is from $177,800.00 to $240,600.00. Specific pricing for the role may vary within the above range based on many factors including geographic location, candidate experience, and skills.
