The Director, Tax Planning will play a critical and strategic role in shaping the Company’s tax planning approach across a broad range of domestic and international transactions. This role requires a highly collaborative, business-oriented professional who can partner cross-functionally to develop and implement forward-thinking, tax-efficient strategies. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical expertise in REIT and corporate tax matters, paired with strong communication and leadership skills, to drive value, manage risk, and ensure compliance in a complex and evolving tax environment.
Responsibilities:
Partner with teams across Acquisitions, Accounting, Asset Management, and Legal to understand business objectives and deliver tax-efficient structures and planning strategiesLead and conduct tax due diligence and provide timely, accurate responses to corporate tax and REIT-related inquiriesPerform and supervise tax research; document and communicate findings in clear, actionable formatsDraft and review contractual language related to tax matters in transaction documentsOversee or prepare financial models related to tax planning and deal structuringMaintain strong working relationships with internal stakeholders and communicate regularly with business executives and department leadersManage relationships with outside advisors to ensure timely, budget-aligned delivery of tax, valuation, and related servicesMonitor federal and international tax legislation and advise leadership on its potential business impact; incorporate developments into the planning process as neededPrepare or review technical summaries and memoranda to support the tax provision and related control requirementsCollaborate with tax compliance managers on returns, disclosures, elections, and related documentationSupport the tax department on ad hoc projects and special initiatives as neededQualifications
10+ years of progressive experience in corporate tax planning, with an emphasis on REIT and/or international tax mattersJD or CPA preferredDemonstrated expertise in structuring complex transactions, conducting tax due diligence, and providing guidance on REIT complianceProven ability to conduct and supervise tax research, draft technical memoranda, and communicate findings clearly to cross-functional stakeholdersExperience reviewing or drafting contractual language related to tax mattersFamiliarity with financial modeling for tax planning scenarios and their impact on tax provisionsStrong understanding of federal and international tax legislation and its application to corporate structures and transactionsEffective leadership and project management skills; ability to collaborate cross-functionally and manage outside advisorsExcellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage with senior executives and business leaders#LI-MB1
