Position Overview: The Director is a key member of Global Procurement in Insulet’s Global Operations organization. This role will report directly to the Vice President, Supplier Engineering. Insulet manages a global supply base and sources precision components from around the world for use in its devices.
The APAC engineering and global procurement team is responsible for all supplier projects with regards to safety, service, capacity, cost, supply strategy etc. This role will lead a team comprised of members from multiple sub-functions such as Project Engineering, Site Supplier Engineering, Direct and Indirect Procurement for Insulet’s interests in Asia.
The Director, Supplier Development Engineering and Supply Management works closely with peers and leaders in Sourcing, Operations, Quality, and Manufacturing to manage, drive and implement all Supply Management strategy and execution in the Asia region. They will drive technical and financial rigor within the team and educate and mentor all team members across the region. They will be responsible for all metrics regarding project execution, cost, tooling etc. They will also lead the site facing supplier engineering work, balancing project execution work with site reactive needs.
The ideal candidate has demonstrated experience in technical project execution, engineering rigor and business/supply management acumen. They also will have led high-performance teams through project management and challenging supplier projects. They will have worked in the supplier management industry building tools such as molds, stamping tools, springs, etc.
Demonstrated success leading supplier development and procurement operations across major Asian manufacturing hubs including China and Malaysia, with deep cultural fluency and regulatory awareness.
Responsibilities:
Lead, manage and grow China and Malaysia based teams to drive all in region supplier activity.
Execute in accordance with global category strategies and identify opportunities to streamline global operations.
Establish executive relationships with suppliers in region, handle negotiations and escalations.
Drive supplier innovation initiatives and implement robust risk management strategies to ensure business continuity and competitive advantage.
Manage a network of high-performing, globally competitive suppliers in precision tooling, automation, and component manufacturing
Report to Operations executives on project health, priorities and metrics.
Develop KPI’s and metrics associated with all projects that are transparent and easily accessible through Power BI.
Coach and mentor all team members with regards to project, technical, financial and business acumen.
Ensure feasibility projects have the correct technical rigor before taking on project execution.
Hold accountability for project execution.
Accountable for root cause analysis of supplier issues driving site challenges.
Drive financial rigor with governance mechanisms to ensure financial accuracy.
Coordinate with FP&A finance team to support CAPEX and OPEX financial operating rhythm
Champion sustainability practices and supplier compliance with ESG standards, aligning with Insulet’s corporate responsibility goals
Education and Experience Requirements:
Undergraduate degree in Engineering or related function; Advanced/graduate degree such as MBA or other business-focused degree preferred
15 years of career experience in Engineering, Project Management, Operations etc.
Capital, Project, Financial and Sourcing acumen
Demonstrated large team leadership
Proven track record of delivery of results
Preferred Skills and Competencies:
Experience directly managing projects across an entire supply chain
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Contract negotiation experience
Familiarity with Power BI, Smartsheet, MS project, SAP, Microsoft family of products
Six Sigma Process Improvement Experience/Certification
Travel Requirement and Work Arrangement:
Ability to travel to supplier sites and corporate headquarters as needed
