The Director of State Tax is responsible for leading and managing all aspects of state tax compliance, planning, and controversy, including income tax, indirect tax, and regulatory disputes. This role ensures compliance with state tax laws, drives strategic tax initiatives, and effectively manages audits and litigation. Let’s break down that day-in-the-life a bit more. **State Tax Compliance & Planning:** + Oversee the state income tax and indirect tax compliance functions, ensuring accurate and timely filings. + Develop and implement state tax planning strategies to optimize tax positions and minimize liabilities. + Monitor legislative and regulatory changes at the state level, assessing impacts and recommending proactive strategies. + Coordinate with finance, accounting, and business units to ensure state tax requirements are integrated into operational processes. **Indirect Tax Management:** + Lead indirect tax compliance, including sales and use tax, property tax, and other state-specific levies. + Collaborate with internal teams to implement and improve tax reporting systems. + Provide guidance on tax implications for transactions, business expansions, and corporate structuring. **State Tax Controversy & Audit Management:** + Manage state tax audits, disputes, and litigation efforts, working closely with external advisors and legal teams. + Represent the company in discussions with tax authorities, ensuring favorable resolutions to tax disputes. + Prepare and oversee responses to inquiries and information requests from state revenue departments. + Develop strategies to mitigate risk and ensure compliance in evolving state tax environments. **What do you need to succeed?** We all have unique skills that we bring to work and celebrate every day. Additionally, while formal education in a related field is great to have, we are most interested in your 10+ years of experience and professional achievements. + Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or related field. Master’s degree and CPA preferred. + 10+ years of progressive tax experience. Big 4 accounting experience highly desirable. + Deep knowledge of state tax laws and regulations, including income tax and indirect tax. + Strong leadership and managerial skills with the ability to guide tax teams. + Excellent communication and negotiation skills to interact with tax authorities and internal stakeholders. + Analytical mindset with a strategic approach to tax planning and dispute resolution. **Now WE have a question for YOU.** **Are you in?** **Hiring Range** **:** $176,000.00 USD - $220,000.00 USD annually **Incentive Potential** : This position is eligible for additional compensation awards that may include an annual incentive plan, sales incentive, or commission potential.
