Job Description This is a full-time remote position that can be located anywhere in the U.S. We are seeking a highly experienced and visionary Director or a Senior Director, Software Engineering to lead our engineering teams. Our company provides essential services to the Property and Casualty (P&C) insurance industry. The ideal candidate will be responsible for defining and executing the technology strategy, building and nurturing a high-performing engineering teams, and driving the development of innovative software solutions that support our clients in the P&C insurance space. This role requires extensive experience with cloud technologies, a hands-on approach to software development, and a proven track record of leading large organizations running multiple platforms. Hands-on experience with Microsoft technologies such as Microsoft SQL Server and .NET is essential, along with experience leading offshore teams. Leadership of Ops teams responsible for the maintenance of environments and deployments is also a key part of this role. Key Responsibilities: Leadership and Strategy: Define and communicate the long-term vision and strategy for software development aligned with company goals. Develop and maintain a comprehensive technology roadmap that supports business needs and fosters innovation. Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing engineering team, promoting a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, and innovation. Lead Ops teams responsible for the maintenance of environments and deployments. Collaborate with business leaders, product managers, and other stakeholders to understand needs and translate them into technical requirements. Provide regular updates to executive leadership on progress, challenges, and successes. Technical Excellence: Oversee the architectural design of software solutions, ensuring scalability, reliability, and performance. Promote the use of modern technologies and best practices in software development. Implement robust quality assurance processes to maintain high standards in code quality and software performance. Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in software engineering and P&C services. Drive innovation within the team by exploring new tools, technologies, and methodologies. Leverage cloud technologies to build scalable, reliable, and cost-effective solutions. Maintain hands-on involvement in software development, including coding, code reviews, and architecture design. Operational Efficiency: Implement and refine agile methodologies to enhance team productivity and ensure timely delivery of software projects. Identify and eliminate bottlenecks in the development process to improve efficiency. Standardize processes and practices across the engineering organization. Proactively manage technical risks and ensure compliance with industry regulations and standards. Develop and enforce security policies and practices to protect sensitive data. Product and Customer Focus: Ensure that software solutions are designed with the end-user in mind, delivering excellent user experiences. Gather feedback from users and stakeholders to continuously improve the product. Align software development initiatives with broader business objectives, ensuring technical efforts drive business value. Support the development of new products and services for the P&C insurance industry through innovative software solutions. Measure and improve customer satisfaction through high-quality software solutions and responsive support. Continuous Learning and Adaptation: Encourage continuous learning and development within the team through training, conferences, and certifications. Lead by example, staying updated on the latest industry trends and technologies. Foster a culture of open feedback and continuous improvement. Use retrospectives and other feedback mechanisms to learn from past projects and improve future performance. Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability to changing business needs and technological advancements. Encourage a mindset of resilience and adaptability within the team. Qualifications Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. Minimum of 15 years of experience in software engineering, with at least 10 years in a leadership role. Proven experience in leading large organizations running multiple platforms is essential. Proven experience in leading offshore teams. Strong technical background with expertise in modern software development technologies and practices. Extensive experience with cloud technologies (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud). Hands-on experience in software development, including coding, code reviews, and architecture design. Demonstrated experience with Microsoft technologies, including Microsoft SQL Server and .NET. Demonstrated ability to build and lead high-performing engineering teams. Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills. Strong problem-solving skills and a strategic mindset. Experience with agile methodologies and process optimization. Proven ability to manage technical risks and ensure compliance with industry regulations. Expertise in building software platforms for the healthcare industry is highly preferred. Benefits eligibility may differ depending on full-time or part-time status. Compensation depends on the applicable US geographic market. The expected base pay for this position ranges from $180,000 - $210,000 annually, and will be based on a number of additional factors including skills, experience, and education.
