Purpose:
The Director, Retail Pharmacy Network is responsible, as part of a team effort, in the planning, organizing, and directing the legal, professional, administrative, and financial functions of the UPMC Retail Pharmacy Network. This network includes the UPMC hospital-based pharmacies and the UPMC central fill pharmacy. The purpose of the network is to promote safe and cost-effective pharmaceutical care through distribution of prescriptions from all UPMC covered entities and the University of Pittsburgh. Incumbent must have effective interpersonal skills in dealing with executive leadership, medical staff, clinical department administrators, managers, and staff. Incumbent must possess the ability to work independently with minimal supervision and take the initiative to investigate and resolve problems using sound judgment. Incumbent will have the ability to maintain confidentiality regarding job assignment and sensitive issues, perform assigned work in allotted time, identify issues before they develop into major concerns and demonstrate analytical skills. Many tasks are not completed in a 40-hour week, and certain projects and programs will require additional overtime to complete or analyze.
Responsibilities:
Provides critical input into the selection, configuration and implementation of pharmacy software to support retail operations-including workflow, safe prescribing practices, regulatory compliance, inventory control, financial operations and reporting. Plans and organizes the UPMC Retail Pharmacy Network operational activities in accordance with patient care needs, UPMC pharmacy strategic plan, UPMC policies, American Pharmacists’ Association standards, and state and federal pharmacy laws. Visibly demonstrates a commitment to process improvement bay actively seeking and using customer feedback to improves services. Serves as a role model of excellent customer service by responding constructively to the needs of all those he/she interacts with on a daily basis (nursing, medical staff, patients, co-workers, and supervisors). Responding constructively means with courtesy, respect, and a positive outlook that reflects the goals of the Department. Quality and patient satisfaction is maintained within defined standards through oversight of systems which provide for proper controls of the UPMC Retail Pharmacy Network medication process. Meets requirements within the Division for administrative reporting and follow-up as well as management of human resources. Selects, coaches, motivates, and aids in the development of a fully qualified staff of managers, clinical pharmacists, and pharmacy technicians. Budget requirements within the Director’s control (e.g., operating expenses, required staffing hours, revenue, cost per prescription and market share) are managed according to defined standards.
