Job Summary

The Director of Product Configuration & Visualization is responsible for the development and execution of strategies necessary to ensure timely and accurate product configuration change control and efficient production of product visualizations & instructional guides across Moen, Therma Tru, Master Lock, and other Fortune Brands Innovations (FBIN) companies.

The scope of work includes leadership of day-to-day operations and the continuous improvement of processes for product visuals & technical literature creation, maintaining engineering product data integrity, governing Enterprise Change Management (ECM), and ensuring that product changes are executed with speed and accuracy across both Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) and Enterprise Requirements Planning (ERP) environments.

Responsibilities

Owner of processes and process execution to assure the accurate creation and maintenance of product information; from CAD level component data, through PLM bills of material (BOM) and associated visual assets & technical documentation, and on into manufacturing ERP BOM structures, routings, manufacturing instructions, and material revisions.Governs the ECM process in support of multiple global partners including Product Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, and Firmware/Software), Platform Management, NPD Project Management, Product Compliance, Manufacturing, Sourcing, Quality, Product Marketing, and integrated external suppliers.Leads managers that are responsible for the day-to-day operations of the technical illustration process, and the continuous improvement of that process. The scope of work for their teams includes maintenance and change control of 3D CAD assemblies and their associated bills of materials that are the source content for all downstream product visual and informational assets. From these 3D CAD assemblies, their teams will create, update, and publish product installation guides, product specifications, illustrated part documentation, manufacturing assembly instructions, and consumable neutral data filesLeads and coordinates workflow across the product configuration and visualization teams based in North America, Europe, and China to communicate priorities, quickly resolve issues, maintain high productivity, and assure adherence to quality requirements.Interfaces with Product Development, Engineering, Compliance, Marketing, Manufacturing, and Customer Service to assure all visual assets, instructional guides, and associated data is completed when needed, is accurate, up to date, and effectively communicates the intended information.Sets policies that ensure integrity of product master data throughout the entire product development lifecycle.Monitors and measures process performance metrics and develops strategies for further efficiency within the product configuration realm, ECM, and product visualization.  Annually evaluates infrastructure, capacity, and capability across FBIN to satisfy needs globally. Analyzes results with eye towards service, quality, and cost optimization, and makes recommendations for rebalancing capabilities and capacity across locations, and internal vs. external.Leads the development, improvement and implementation of product configuration management control, ECM, and product visualization system standards, procedures, and best-practice across FBIN.Attract, develop, and retain talent needed to successfully execute product configuration management control and the production of product visualizations & instructional guides in support of FBIN strategies.

 

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field is required; MBA preferredMinimum of 10 years of related experience to include prior experience managing teams that work closely with 3D CAD assemblies, 2D/3D technical illustration software, technical writing, instructional design, 3D animation, BOM maintenance, and change control within an ERP/PLM environment.Minimum 6 years of experience in engineering and/or product development to include hands-on experience with CAD/Engineering tools in a distributed global organization.Expertise in engineering change control processes connected to a distributed manufacturing environment, linking engineering PLM systems with manufacturing ERP systems.  Preferred platforms include Dassault Systems SolidWorks & Altium CAD, Dassault Systems 3DX PLM, and SAP & Oracle ERP.Proven and trusted partner of senior leaders with ability to influence strategic direction and approach.Ability to effectively manage change and complex organizational projects, navigate and influence others in a matrixed environment (management experience preferred), deliver tough messages and resolve conflict. Demonstrated success assessing and managing risk in complex and ambiguous situations.Excellent written and oral communications skills, technical writing experience, and procedure / instruction writing experience.High level of communication and inter-personal skills with the ability to collaborate with people at all levels and functions across multiple geographic locations.Demonstrated passion for learning, adoption of new technology, and independent decision-making.Ability and willingness to travel up to approximately 10% of the time, both domestically and internationally

Fortune Brands believes in fair and equitable pay. A reasonable estimate of the base salary range for this role is Hiring Pay Range: $140,000 USD - $220,000 USD. Please note that actual salaries may vary within the range, or be above or below the range, based on factors including, but not limited to, education, training, experience, professional achievement, business need, and location. In addition to base salary, employees will participate in either an annual bonus plan based on company and individual performance, or a role-based sales incentive plan.
