Job Description
Job Description: Reporting to the Executive Director of Commercial Excellence, and collaborating with a passionate team, the Director will contribute to drive marketing excellence at Gilead, focusing on three main areas: Global and Local Planning, Launch Excellence, and Embedding New Capabilities in Global Teams.
This role involves leading the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the Gilead marketing standards, frameworks, processes, and ways of working in global teams. Will oversee the planning processes to ensure alignment and quality of action plans, and the launch excellence process for effective execution of launch activities, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement. Additionally, the role champions the implementation of new marketing capabilities—such as modular content development, AI-enhanced content creation, and evolving content review processes—ensuring their adoption within Global Strategic Marketing. As new capabilities emerge through the OMC program, this role will play a key part in embedding them across teams to elevate marketing performance globally.
You will closely collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure cohesive and aligned marketing efforts: Global Strategic Marketing (GSM) and CT members, Global Decisions Strategy and Insights (GDSI), Global Value and Access teams, Global Medical Affairs (GMA), GCPM team, Global Execution leads, and Global Learning and Development (GCLD) within Global Commercial Operations (GCO).
Responsibilities:
Global and local planning:
Act as the global owner and coordinator of the Global and Local Action Planning process in Gilead. Oversee roll-out timelines and activities, template enhancements, and process adoption by global and local teams.Work closely with the Global and Local Strategic Planning Process owner to support roll-out timelines, activities, template enhancements, and process adoption by global and local teams.Maintain the Commercial Planning Hub with all resources available and current global and local plans. Update supporting resources as needed.Collaborate with the community of local process owners to share best practices and identify gaps and needs for continuous process improvement.Monitor process adherence and quality of the plans.Align with the Global Medical team to ensure coordination across functions within business conduct principles.Launch Excellence
Serve as the global owner of the Launch Excellence process in Gilead, ensuring processes are up-to-date and adopted by global and local teams.Maintain the existing Playbook and secure necessary updates as we experiment and learn.Manage existing Handbooks for specific launch activities and create new ones as needed, liaising with cross-functional partners.Maintain STRIVE as the Launch Excellence platform, ensuring continuous enhancement, training teams to familiarize themselves with it, and championing its use across global and local launching teams.Keep the Global Launch Excellence Hub updated with the latest frameworks and tools.Train global launch leads, PMs, and Execution leads to use frameworks and tools effectively.Monitor process adherence and quality of launch plans.Foster a culture of learning from launches to improve future ones.Collaborate closely with launching cross-functional partners (Marketing, Insights & Analytics, Commercial Operations, Medical Affairs, Value & Access, Regulatory, and Trade Ops teams) to ensure coordination across functions within business conduct principles.Embedding new capabilities in Global Teams
The role will lead the implementation and adoption of new marketing capabilities across global teams. This includes translating strategic priorities into practical tools, processes, and behaviors that elevate marketing performance.
Lead the launch and adoption of the Marketing Excellence Framework by global marketing teams. Maintain the change agent network across global marketing teams and work aligned with the lead for the local change agent network. Monitor process adherence, display of marketing mindsets, and quality of marketing practices.A key focus will be on evolving how Global Strategic Marketing produces content—shifting toward more agile, modular content models that enable faster localization, reuse, and personalization across markets.The individual will also shape how the global content review process evolves to support these new ways of working, ensuring it remains fit-for-purpose and aligned with the modular content approach.Additionally, the role will contribute to the future integration of AI-driven solutions to enhance content creation, streamline workflows, and scale personalization. As new OMC capabilities are developed, this role will ensure their adoption and integration within Global Strategic Marketing teams.Qualifications / Competencies:
Bachelor's Degree with at least 12 years of experience and extensive knowledge of strategic marketing and operational marketing. Significant experience in the pharmaceutical industry.International work experience and experience working with global markets preferred.Evidence of experience in marketing roles globally preferably, and/or locallyWorking knowledge and experience in designing, writing, and presenting strategic global plansExperience in launching new brands, with evidence of designing, writing, and presenting the global Launch plan. Ideally experience supporting countries in their country launching plansWorking knowledge in brand positioning, campaign development and customer centric approaches.Expert knowledge and ability in change management, skilled facilitator, ability to conduct impactful workshops to influence and move teams.Desired proven experience in leading and coaching either in a direct or indirect matrixExcellent influencing and networking skills paired with stakeholder management. Gravitas and leadership.Highly driven, strong results orientation, and a passion for implementation and moving deliverables forward.Self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative, and innovative high-growth environment.Ability to manage complex projects across markets and stakeholders, ensuring timely and smooth execution.Experience in driving large initiatives involving cross-functional, multi-layered global environments, engaging with different organizational levels.Proven ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including marketing, medical affairs, commercial operations, insights & analytics, and regulatory teamsStrong communication and presentation skills.Location: The position is based in Foster City, California, and the candidate should be willing to be in the office a minimum of 3 days a week.
