The Opportunity
The focus of the Director, Licensing and Acquisitions is to proactively research, identify and evaluate potential company, product and technology targets that are consistent with Abbott’s strategies and drive sustainable growth for the Company through various forms of transactions (e.g. acquisitions, venture investing, distribution agreements).
What You’ll Work On
Lead the assessment and due diligence activities including: 1) managing the interactions with external parties, 2) overseeing the evaluation process and timeline and 3) developing timely recommendations and proposals for senior management consideration based on thorough and complete technical and commercial assessments.
Develop effective deal structures, risk mitigation and negotiating strategies to ensure alignment with Company objectives.
Leading, negotiating and closing of a variety of transactions such as distribution agreements, venture investments, and complex acquisitions.
Effectively manage external stakeholders (e.g. CEOs, Investment Bankers and Physicians) and internal stakeholders (e.g, Senior Management and C-suite), including preparing opportunity assessments for executive-level audiences.
Effectively lead support teams (e.g. – marketing, R&D, clinical, regulatory, operations) through due diligence process on opportunities.
Deliver oral and written presentations to senior management to seek approval for new opportunities.
Lead assessments of key markets, companies, and technologies. Individual will be regarded as a subject matter expert for the various business segments supported.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree Required. Prefer Engineering with a Master of Business Administration.
15+ years of M&A, L&A or relevant experience including time spent working on acquisitions, managing the assessment of opportunities, negotiating and closing deals successfully.
15+ years in the Interventional Vascular and / or Structural Heart fields.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience within product development, regulatory, and commercialization process for evaluation of target companies and products.
Leadership skills to drive projects to deliver timely results and follow through on commitments.
Strong communication skills to effectively communicate business strategies and capabilities internally and externally, present individual and team recommendations clearly and concisely, and promote cross-functional communication.
Strong networking skills to reach out to a broad range of industry decision makers to keep abreast of emerging opportunities.
Demonstrated negotiation and influencing skills in a deal setting to creatively solve problems with partner companies and proven track record of closing deals / transactions.
Strong financial acumen and analytical skills to understand financial evaluations.
The base pay for this position is $193,300.00 – $386,700.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
