About the role:

The role serves as the NAM organizational lead for the internal controls agenda partnering closely with global & external collaborators as well as senior management to ensure the overall control environment is operating effectively and efficiently

Role Responsibilities:

Organizational lead for controls agenda across NAM market working in partnership with local leadership teams, business divisions and global customers to deliver the controls agenda across NAM – Diageo’s largest business unit with $8B NSVExposure to North American executive team, business leadership teams and global process ownersLeverage Functional Experts within the organization for key insight and support; ability to work the global financial support matrix seamlesslyAbility to work with pace and agility while driving clarity and closure of control activitiesAbility to identify and anticipate issues in the control environment before they have a significant business impact

Key Outputs/Deliverables

Partner with financial and operational management to optimize the internal control environment and risk mitigation activitiesManage and deliver advisory reviews for strategic projects and risk areas to ensure internal controls are designed, implemented, and operating effectivelyManage relationships with senior partners across the region and influence leadership to maintain reinforce accountability and awareness of internal controlsWorks across business to own the design, implementation and effectiveness of new controls and / or owns enhancement of ineffective or inefficient internal controlsDrive and implement industry standard methodologies, with consideration for emerging topics, such as the ongoing acceleration of digital strategiesPerform a continuous risk assessment of the region. Provide an expert assessment of policy, process, and controls effectivenessProvide training on process, risks, and controls to the business.Support GCA on CARM testingSupport business unit management on non CARM testing and control self assessments.Support management on the integration of new business entities

Key interactions:

Reports directly to SVP, NAM Corporate Finance NAMKey business partner to all business leadership teams across NAM’s operating units; exposure to NAM executive teamPrimary partner to our Global Audit & Risk, Global Controls Assurance teams and PWCExposure to NAM Financial Control team and wider Diageo GBO process owners

Qualifications and experienced required:

Technical expertise in internal controls and audit practices including expertise in risk and control frameworks, financial policies and procedures, process and internal controls leading practices and best in class compliance practices.Demonstrated experience in remediating internal control deficiencies. Meaningful experience in designing and implementing internal controls that are efficient and effectiveLeadership skills including proven business partnering and communication skills across a large global, public company. Demonstrated and proven ability to influence senior management in large organizationExperience as a finance leader managing a diverse, cross-functional, and matrixed organization. Prior experience in managing and influencing shared service organizations preferredHighly motivated self-starter with the ability to build and maintain strong relationships with senior business leaders and different teams across the organization.Seasoned leader with at least 12 year experience with at minimum 8 years of experience in roles directly connected to internal controls – i.e. Big Four, internal controls at large organization and/or internal audit. CPG experience a plus though not requiredUniversity degree or equivalent experience in Accounting, Finance, or related field and professional qualification(e.g. CPA or equivalent)
