The Global Leader New Product Development (NPD) will act as the global engineering leader for the New Product Development teams located globally which support new product development (NPD) and design to value (DtV) projects. The leader is responsible to ensure that his team provides high quality engineering output with lead times that are aligned with the needs of the business. The NPD leader will leverage GTEC, Engineering Services and Technology Development resources to apply the best available resources to provide superior engineering support.
Nature and Scope:
Execute New Product Development projects from beginning to end
Lead 5-20 projects with total budget allotted $1-10MM USD a year.
All projects supporting one of the main product portfolios (Pump, Valve or Seal)
Monitor needs of technology developments for future planned NPD projects roadmaps in alignment with the Business Unit multigenerational product plan.
Monitor worldwide developments in flow technology to understand trends and be able to anticipate product evolution, and identify technologies which may be applied to Flowserve products to position the company as the technology leader.
Driving intellectual property creation
Represent Flowserve in industry associations, third party partnerships and other related external technology and innovation leveraged networks.
Develop and maintain a team of product specialists to support FPD NPD and DtV projects
Manages a budget of spend on new product development and DtV
Manage an overall staff of 20+ engineering specialists, designers, test technicians and project managers
Manage safe laboratory operating environments

Responsibilities:
Drive a culture within the Product Engineering team based on customer focus, ethics, and a strong commitment to developing product designs for safe and reliable operation.
Lead the assigned engineering teams to ensure that the annual operating plan is achieved and engineered solutions are aligned to business requirements and are customer-centric.
Foster a high level of cooperation with SBM and BU resources, championing a highly collaborative, cross-functional approach to providing technical solutions and contributing technical expertise to development and order fulfillment projects.
Oversee and monitor the execution of NPD and Design to Value projects approved and authorized by SBM leadership to ensure that the projects are according to schedule and budget, delivering the defined project objectives while in compliance with established procedures and policies.
Provide technical thought leadership to the engineering organization and on a cross-functional basis.
Ensure product safety and regulatory compliance through implementation of rigorous design control procedures and protocols.
Drive effective usage of the GTEC teams in Budapest and India to fully leverage their value as a flexible source of engineering expertise and capacity.
Develop leadership and engineering talent through recruiting, development and programs aimed at engagement and retention to ensure sustainability of key technical competencies and capability.
Foster the creation and growth of technical capabilities through third-party organizations and research institutions (i.e. universities, private research organizations, government laboratories, etc.), encouraging the advancement of innovation and technology.
Oversee knowledge management efforts to sustain and transfer the expertise of NPD team specialists across the global engineering community.
Make effective use of rough cut capacity planning tools to ensure that engineering capacity and capabilities are well aligned to forecasted fluctuations in the needs of the business.
Establish, track and use metrics to drive desired engineering performance for quality, responsiveness and productivity.
Act as an effective change agent, driving adoption and long-term acceptance of engineering best practices in alignment with strategic imperatives.
Have a continual improvement approach which owns and drives enhancements and accelerators to the lean mentality of driving time to market through the NPD process.
Qualifications:
B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or similar technical degree with a M.S. in Engineering or Engineering Management or MBA preferred
Minimum 10 years of industrial experience with at least 8 years demonstrated experience in a management position over technical staff and preferred within the rotating equipment industry
Strong analytical and problem solving skills with a demonstrated ability to apply technical and continuous improvement tools to drive performance improvement in alignment with business and stakeholder needs.
Demonstrated success in leading design teams with a strong process orientation.
Demonstrated ability to develop and manage strong team, customer, and internal relationships including a history of developing collaborative relationships.
Strong project management skills with demonstrated success in effectively leading complex projects involving cross-functional and global teams.
Strong oral and written communication skills with a demonstrated ability to compose concise reports and presentations.
Proven ability to adapt to changing organizational environment and business needs.
Demonstrated ability to lead geographically dispersed teams with culturally diverse membership
Strong leadership skills with a demonstrated commitment to staff development through mentoring and coaching.
Willingness to travel from base to global engineering centers, plant facilities and customer locations with travel requirements of up to 30 percent.
