The Database Director is responsible for managing, overseeing, organize and being part of the database administrator’s team, ensuring the security, integrity, accuracy, performance, and availability of Sovos’ multiple Oracle Exadata, Oracle RAC, Oracle Restart, SQL Server and MySQL Databases. The Database Team is responsible for the capacity of databases, defining processes and best practices for resolution of unique or complex database problems, developing and enhancing infrastructure to support the growth of the business and for building a scalable and highly effective database infrastructure to support Sovos’ SaaS Applications and internal business services to the various stakeholders.

Key Position Responsibilities
Is a Sovos referent (go to person) in crucial technology area. Is involved in advancing Sovos shared technology. Often deployed on one or more teams to jumpstart their adoption of new technologies or significantly increase capacity.
Provides mentoring and formal training to multiple teams. May take accountability to get a struggling team back on track. Boosts message of Sovos shared technologies and best practices.
Is consulted from multiple locations and Product Lines, which enables acquiring a much broader perspective.
Collaborates with tech leads to provide a unified vision. Participates in cascading important messages within the team.
Collects information from various sources, analyze it, and come up with intelligent conclusions.
Maturely embraces change and fosters others to do the same.
Proactively organizes meetings to ensure that all stakeholders understand the status of projects, and potential delays / roadblocks.
Communicates technical concepts to both non-technical and technical team members.
Leads and promotes adoption of new technology, best practices and shared Sovos platform components.
Minimum Position Qualifications
A bachelor’s or master’s degree from a technical university or equivalent.
9+ years/s of experience in Database Management.
Solid understanding of Database systems
Good coaching and knowledge transfer skills and is proactive at finding opportunities to coach others.
Able to set technical objectives to the team and provide guidelines.
Understands Sovos latest Frameworks, and how the different parts interact with each other, and can identify opportunities to leverage solutions (or reutilize) globally across Sovos.
Ability to provide technical mentorship to staff members at all levels of seniority.
Can influence entire teams to adopt Sovos Database systems best practices.
Leads multiple infrastructure planning and implementation including instance strategy, technical platform selection, architecture design, backup, and recovery strategy.
Ability to identify potential issues and raise concern to the appropriate leader in the organization, including ideas to resolve the problem.
Ability to involve Product and Technology teams with other departments effectively and to suggest and successfully implement cross-functional process improvements.
Can multitask effectively between multiple teams and goals.
Can identify opportunities for improvement in other areas and roles.
