Director, Content Rights Management

Our Director of Content Rights Management, reports to the Head of Programming and helps determine and maintain the data integrity of Sinclair Broadcast Group’s (SBG’s) rights processes across multiple business units to ensure all information and resources are coordinated and input to ensure proper running of SBGs Rights Management System.

In this role, you will:

Lead a team of two who help to disseminate content rights information to support internal parties across all Sinclair product lines (Broadcast, National Networks, Tennis Channel, etc.). Manage the Rightsline system across extensive and complex libraries (syndicated, and otherwise for Sinclair’s broadcast networks, OTT apps (B2C and B2B) as well as their SVOD / FAST (AVOD) channels to help the company make as much use of their content across platforms as possible.  Adjust and updates rights information to reflect the most recent status of active rights assigned to the company and available content. Maintain ongoing contact with SBG business units (including Tennis Channel) in order to manage user access. Make executed contracts available to key stakeholders via the rights management system Work with outside vendors where required in order to update rights information and maintain integrity of data. Establish relationships with SBG personnel and service providers in order to provide support and training for various systems. Work in collaboration with SBG legal to handle requests and agreement changes as required. Co-ordinate rights avails and share with various team members via rights management system in order to support deal flow. Track content rights and maintain a database and serve as a key central resource for rights-related questions. Partner across Programming, Accounting, Scheduling, Content Acquisitions and Operations for end-to-end management of rights. Act as the point of contact for the Rights Management Central team (RMC), keeping Sinclair networks and stakeholders abreast of revised terms, contract end dates, technical specification requirements and overall compliance for each piece of content as well as manage the archived deals.  Drive user adoption as well as the execution and oversight of third-party software development as it pertains to Rightsline as a single source of truth for content rights and availability.  Work closely with the product team for current state enhancements as well as future-facing integrations and optimizations of data and how that data relates to user needs.  Maintain Rightsline as the most relevant source of truth for content rights, from a third-party catalog to accounting payment schedules, and title-level metadata/IDs and ensures proper compliance of said data to stakeholders.  Create regular and ad hoc reports and presentations for senior management as well as third-party vendors on a regular basis as it pertains to library and avails. 

Required Qualifications:

Minimum of 5 years’ experience in content rights management within television, including broadcast stations, cable networks, multicast networks, or studios Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to navigate challenges and remove roadblocks efficiently Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to convey complex information clearly and concisely Proven leadership ability, fostering collaboration while guiding teams toward success Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and capable of interpreting contractual deal terms accurately Highly detail-oriented with a strong focus on accuracy and compliance Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision Forward-thinking and curious about industry trends, with a passion for staying ahead of developments in media rights and content management

The base salary compensation range for this role is $115,000 to $124,000. Final compensation for this role will be determined by various factors such as a candidates’ relevant work experience, skills, certifications, and geographic location. Full time positions are eligible for benefits that include participation in a retirement plan, life and disability insurance, health, dental and vision plans, flexible spending accounts, sick leave, vacation time, personal time, parental leave and employee stock purchase plan.
