Comcast NBCUniversal has announced its intent to create a new publicly traded company ('Versant') comprised of most of NBCUniversal's cable television networks, including USA Network, CNBC, MSNBC, Oxygen, E!, SYFY and Golf Channel along with complementary digital assets Fandango, Rotten Tomatoes, GolfNow, GolfPass, and SportsEngine. The well-capitalized company will have significant scale as a pure-play set of assets anchored by leading news, sports and entertainment content. The spin-off is expected to be completed during 2025.
The Position:
The Director, Consumer Insights (Content & Audience Intelligence) will play a key role in helping to develop forward-looking insights that deepen the business’s understanding of key audiences, content opportunities, and cultural trends across the evolving entertainment landscape. This position operates within a high-performing, fast-paced environment that spans NBC Entertainment and Peacock. The Director will be instrumental in shaping content strategy and marketing initiatives by delivering actionable insights and collaborating with cross-functional teams, including Content Strategy, Marketing, Growth Strategy, and more. Based in Los Angeles, this role reports directly to the VP, Consumer Insights (Content & Audience Intelligence) and will work closely with other Consumer Insights teams to deliver holistic, integrated stories that inform strategic decision-making.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
+ Lead the development and execution of a strategic research roadmap to identify, prioritize, and deeply understand key audience segments. Create and evolve audience segmentation frameworks and personas, deliver actionable tools, and ensure teams understand when and how to apply them.
+ Design and execute rich audience deep-dives in key areas (e.g., Sports, Genre Fandoms, Underrepresented Audiences, etc.) to develop a common language across cross-functional teams on growth opportunities.
+ Collaborate with strategy, analytics, and data science partners to deliver a holistic view of audience needs, behaviors, and opportunities.
+ Work closely with Content Insights and cross-functional partners to identify content white spaces, uncovering unmet audience needs and emerging opportunities across genres, formats, and trends to help differentiate our portfolio.
+ Deliver proactive insights around tentpole and cultural moments to inform audience and marketing strategies that resonate in timely, relevant, and impactful ways.
+ Conduct research and synthesize existing data sources to develop clear, actionable perspectives on content engagement strategies (e.g., release models, platform behaviors) that drive fandom, loyalty, and long-term value.
+ Work closely with Brand Insights to monitor and interpret societal shifts and public sentiment, providing a forward-looking lens on how evolving opinions may influence audience engagement.
+ Foster a culture of curiosity, innovation, and analytical rigor.
+ Serve as a trusted advisor and strategic partner to leadership, routinely share insights that provide conclusions and recommendations to inform audience strategy, content portfolio planning, and growth tactics.
+ Manage relationships with external research agencies and vendors, ensuring high-quality deliverables and optimal resource allocation.
+ Champion a consumer-centric mindset throughout the organization, embedding insights into all aspects of business decision-making.
Basic Qualifications:
+ 8+ years of experience in content and audience research within the entertainment, streaming media, subscription, or direct-to-consumer industries.
+ Expertise in designing, executing, and analyzing a wide range of quantitative and qualitative research methodologies (e.g. surveys, focus groups, semiotics, ethnography, segmentation, etc.).
+ Demonstrated success leveraging data and insights to inform business decisions and gain widespread buy-in for strategic initiatives. This includes experience conducting deep audience research that guides decisions related to Content Strategy, Programming, and Portfolio Planning.
+ Strong analytical skills with the ability to combine multiple streams of consumer research (first-party, second-party, and third-party) into clear, actionable insights that establish a 360 portrait of consumers.
+ A genuine passion for entertainment and media, coupled with a deep curiosity about culture and trends as they relate to content and audiences. You also keep a pulse on industry trends and competitive dynamics.
+ Strategic and forward-thinking, you are great at synthesizing broad contexts, anticipating future needs, and delivering actionable insights that drive initiatives forward.

+ Familiarity with the latest technologies and innovations in consumer insights and market research. You can draw from a range of capabilities to create innovative research programs.
Additional Requirements:
Hybrid: This position has been designated as hybrid, generally contributing from the office a minimum of three days per week.
This position is eligible for company sponsored benefits, including medical, dental and vision insurance, 401(k), paid leave, tuition reimbursement, and a variety of other discounts and perks. Salary range: $135,000-$180,000 (bonus and long-term incentive eligible)
