DIRECTOR, BEHAVIORAL HEALTH

SOUTHSIDE MEDICAL CENTER AND SOUTHERN VIRGINIA MEDICAL CENTER

Reports to: Market Director, Inpatient Behavioral Health

# of Reports: 75 direct reports

 

Primary Function/General Purpose of Position

The Director Behavioral Health provides administrative supervision to Behavioral Health staff for the Behavioral Health service line under the direction of designated facility leader. Responsible for ensuring the service line meets key performance indicator and productivity expectations. Span of control may include multiple site locations across the market. 

 

Essential Job Functions

May provide direct patient care (within scope)  

Responsible for scheduling and staffing  

Quality Review  

Chart Review; SafeCare review and follow up  

Patient and staff advocacy  

Responding to patient complaints  

Responsible for ensuring unit is survey ready  

Administrative and operational responsibilities of supervising staff to include payroll, performance management, coaching, interviewing, hiring, onboarding new staff members. May provide administrative supervision of students, volunteers, physicians and ancillaries.  

Responsible for peer competency review  

Responsible for coordinating and supervising internships  

May provide Clinical Supervision  

Span of control may include multiple locations  

Data collection and analysis. Responsible for measurement-based outcomes or operational qualification (OQ)  

Serves as a community liaison  

Fiscal responsible for budgets, strategic planning and program development  

Markets services to community and primary care practices.  

Collaborates with medical and other leaders. 

Successfully participates to complete BSMH and departmental specific training as required 


Licensing/Certification 

One of the following is required:  

Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW) 

Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) 

Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) 

Registered Nurse (RN) 

Psychologist Board Certification in Art, Music, or Movement Therapies 

 

Education 

One of the following is required:  

Bachelors, Science of Nursing (BSN) (must obtain Masters, in Science of Nursing (MSN) within 3 years of employment)  

Masters, Social Work (MSW) 

Masters, Science in Social Administration (MSSA) 

Masters, Registered Nurse (MSN) 

Psychology Doctoral Degree (PsyD) 

 

Work Experience 

7 years’ experience in related field, including 3 years’ experience in a management capacity (required)
