This position is responsible for leading and supporting a large team that drives baggage performance at the hub. The role requires strategic oversight and operational problem-solving in a complex, high-volume environment. The Director will also serve as a critical liaison with corporate partners to identify and advocate for the right investments in manpower, infrastructure, and technology to enhance performance and efficiency. **What you'll do** _As noted above, this list is intended to reflect the current job but there may be additional essential functions (and certainly non-essential job functions) that are not referenced. Management will modify the job or require other tasks be performed whenever it is deemed appropriate to do so, observing, of course, any legal obligations including any collective bargaining obligations._ + Provide strategic leadership and compassionate care to a large, diverse team driving baggage performance at a major hub + Determine strategic priorities and lead operational excellence in a dynamic, high-volume environment, ensuring operational agility and operational resilience + Champion operational performance management by analyzing key baggage metrics and ensuring outcomes align with high enterprise standards and high customer expectations + Partner with corporate stakeholders to influence and secure strategic investments in workforce planning, infrastructure enhancements, and technology innovation + Build and maintain deep technical knowledge of baggage systems to identify efficiency opportunities and optimize operational performance + Cultivate a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement through proactive leadership and employee engagement + Drives strategic decision making by providing analytical, project management, and change management support to key initiatives, such as process improvement projects, key capital expenditures, and technology deployments **All you'll need for success** **Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience** + Bachelor’s degree in Business, Operations Management, Aviation, or a related field + 10+ years of progressive leadership experience, preferably in operations, logistics, or aviation + Proven ability to lead large teams in high-pressure environments **Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience** + Master’s degree in Business, Operations Management, Aviation, or a related field + Experience in airport or baggage operations + Familiarity with baggage handling systems and related technologies + Background in managing large-scale operational budgets and capital projects **Skills, Licenses & Certifications** + Demonstrates the highest level of ethics and integrity + Strong leadership and team development skills + Strong analytical and problem-solving skills + Excellent communication and interpersonal skills + Ability to collaborate effectively across departments and with senior leadership + Technical aptitude to understand and manage complex systems + Proficiency in data analysis and performance management tools + Ability to obtain and maintain airport security clearance as required + Ability to work a varied schedule as needed in support of the operation, including nights, weekends, and holidays + Believes in and promotes the American Airlines five leadership attributes: + Caring – We care about all team members + Collaboration – We succeed as a team + Development – We build future leaders + Results – We drive to be the best + Future – We continually challenge the status quo **What you'll get** Feel free to take advantage of all that American Airlines has to offer: + Travel Perks: Ready to explore the world?
