Director, Assistant Corporate Controller

JOB SUMMARY This management position is responsible for the mission, vision and goal of transforming the existing accounting and reporting processes to allow us to scale as we continue implementing our growth strategy. The Assist Controller will lead an accounting team of 6-10 employees ensuring accurate and timely financial results. Reporting to the VP Corporate Controller, the Assistant Controller will be a key finance leader working collaboratively to drive improvement through technology, accurate data, and focused on continuous improvement. Responsibilities Accounting & Monthly Close: Oversees the general accounting activities for largest operating entity, including recording company transactions, classifications, and reconciliation of account balances in accordance with US GAAP and company policy. Rebuild existing accounting practices and processes, leveraging systems enhancements to automate transactions impacting the general ledger, and shortening monthly close cycle. Review of account reconciliations, P&L results to budget, and ability to dive into business drivers for clear understanding of business changes. Drive standardization in accounting policies with subsidiary controllers and internal teams. Develop and implement financial policies in response to operational needs, internal control requirements, or technical accounting requirements. Drive efficiencies leveraging technology to streamline accounting and reporting Develop accounting staff through coaching, counseling, and developing employees; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results Financial Reporting: Ownership of the accurate and timely preparation of the Company’s consolidated financial statements, including analysis and review of parent and subsidiary company financial statements, journal entries and reconciliation of key accounts to ensure accuracy and GAAP compliance. Provide accounting and reporting support at acquired companies as needed. Assist tax departments with parent-company compliance with federal, state & local tax regulations Lead the planning and execution of the external audit Technical Accounting: Research, conclude and record journal entries to ensure GAAP compliance on complex areas including but not limited to: business combinations, revenue recognition, lease accounting, and equity-based compensation. Monitor new accounting standards, assess and report on the impact to the organization and implement changes to existing practice to ensure compliance. Ensure GAAP compliance with newly acquired entities. Understanding of intercompany accounting and eliminations Qualifications CPA required 3+ years of public accounting (Big 4 or nationally recognized firm) and 5-10 years industry experience (construction or distributed service environment a plus). Experience leading accounting teams of 6-12 employees or more. Experience consolidating multiple companies, preparing internal financial reporting packages, and preparing consolidated financial statements, including footnotes. Direct and recent experience with GAAP technical accounting and implementing policies and practices to ensure GAAP compliance. Experience with integration of other companies or ERP systems is helpful. Strong leadership and management skills with an ability to work well within a team structure and drive change cross-functionally. Self-motivated individual with the ability to meet project deliverables. Exceptional written and verbal communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills. Ability to understand and follow all company policies and procedures and all applicable State and Federal laws.
