The Director of Environmental Assurance and Protection (EAP) serves as the principal architect of Amazon's environmental compliance and risk management strategy across our global operations network. This role is fundamental to realizing EAP's vision of creating simple, scalable, and sustainable processes, supported by helpful technology, expert inspection, and real-time data, to enable operations to maintain compliance with regulated waste regulations.
Key job responsibilities
Leading a diverse, multi-regional team of environmental professionals, the Director, EAP will shape and drive environmental governance frameworks that support Amazon's rapid growth while ensuring stellar compliance with regulatory requirements worldwide. The role demands a strong leader who will partner with senior leadership to define environmental risk priorities and investment strategies, while simultaneously building and executing comprehensive environmental management systems that span our fulfillment, logistics, specialty fulfillment, and retail operations.
Critical to achieving the EAP vision, the Director will champion the development and implementation of innovative technology solutions and data analytics platforms that simplify compliance processes and enable real-time monitoring and reporting. They will be responsible for due diligence in new property acquisitions and leases, ensuring seamless integration of environmental standards across expanding business operations.
A successful candidate will drive environmental innovation through data-driven decision making, establishing simple and repeatable best practices that can be scaled across our global network. They will serve as Amazon's senior environmental ambassador, representing the company in executive-level engagements with regulatory agencies, industry groups, and environmental organizations. Central to this role is the ability to develop and execute 3-5 year environmental strategic plans that align with both our critical business growth targets and our commitment to environmental stewardship, while maintaining focus on operational simplicity and scalability.
Basic Qualifications
* Bachelor’s degree
* 15+ years of progressive leadership experience in leading scaled operational change, ideally in environmental compliance and risk management
* Strong track record of building and leading high-performing teams across multiple geographies
* Executive presence and ability to influence senior leadership and cross-functional stakeholders
* Experience partnering with legal teams to drive business or operational improvement
Preferred Qualifications
* Advanced degree in Business Administration or related field
*Master's degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or related field
* Professional certifications in environmental management systems (ISO 14001)
* Experience in tech or e-commerce industries
* Published thought leadership in environmental management or sustainability
* Proven experience in managing environmental aspects of rapid business growth and expansion

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $190,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $283,200/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
