At work in over 40 countries and 22 U.S. cities to restore safety, dignity and hope, the IRC leads the way from harm to home. The IRC in Richmond opened its doors in October 2015 to give refugee families the tools they need to take control over their new lives in the greater Richmond area, assisting them toward self-sufficiency, self-reliance, and community integration. SCOPE OF DIGITAL NAVIGATOR INTERN WORK: The Digital Navigator Intern will support clients in overcoming digital barriers by providing one-on-one assistance internet connectivity and device access, a s well as group digital literacy classes . This role is essential in helping clients gain the digital skills and tools needed to access employment, education, healthcare, and other essential services. The intern will work closely with IRC staff , volunteers, and community partners to assess client needs, provide tailored digital support, and connect clients with appropriate resources . This position is ideal for someone passionate about digital equity, community empowerment, and cross-cultural engagement. RESPONSIBILITIES: + Conduct intake assessments to identify clients’ digital needs and goals. + Provide individualized support with internet access, device setup, and digital literacy training. + Assist clients in navigating online platforms for job applications, education, healthcare, and government services. + Guide clients in using smartphones, tablets, and computers effectively and safely. + Maintain accurate records of client interactions, progress, and outcomes using intake and follow-up forms. + Collaborate with IRC staff and community partners to refer clients to additional resources as needed. + Support outreach efforts to promote digital inclusion services in the community. + Participate in training sessions and team meetings to enhance service delivery. Qualifications + Strong interest in digital inclusion, technology access, and working with international clients. + Familiarity with basic digital tools and platforms (e.g., email, web browsing, video conferencing, online forms). + Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a focus on empathy and cultural sensitivity. + Ability to work independently and as part of a team. + Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. + Comfort with conducting phone or virtual support sessions. + Multilingual skills (especially in Spanish, Arabic, Dari, or Pashto) are a plus. + Interns must be able to commit to at least 15 hours a week for at least three months. + Valid driver’s license and access to an insured vehicle preferred. This position is unpaid and reports to the Economic Empowerment Supervisor. *The IRC and IRC workers must adhere to the values and principles outlined in the IRC Way – Standards for Professional Conduct.
