Digital Media and Communications Specialist

Job Description

SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Director of Communications and Strategic Operations, the Digital Media and Communications Specialist plans, creates, manages, and optimizes content across shared and owned platforms to support a comprehensive media and content strategy for the College of Communication and Media. Using strong writing, editing, Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and creative production skills, the Digital Media and Communications Specialist reaches internal and external audiences to increase awareness of the College’s programs, and to meet enrollment and other measurable goals. This position requires a creative storyteller who can establish metrics and track effectiveness across the College’s website and social media channels.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Partner with various programs and centers of excellence within the College (Red Hawk Sports Network, News Lab, Radio Station, etc.) to generate story ideas and produce content surrounding the student experience.

Create and manage a content calendar for the College’s social media platforms, website and intranet designed to reach internal and external audiences including students, faculty, staff, prospective students and their families, alumni, high school administrators, etc.

Produce content that aligns with the University’s branding and voice.

Collaborate with student content creators who assist in producing social media posts and other content.

Utilize the University’s Content Management System (CMS) to publish and optimize content using best SEO practices.

Create and maintain earned media lists and assist with earned media pitching by writing press releases.

Monitor the news cycle and trends in Higher Education (specifically with similar Strategic Communications programs) to identify content creation and growth opportunities.

Create digital and physical marketing materials for events such as Open House, Accepted Students Day, Mentoring Program and others.

Assist with event operations for Homecoming and other special events and projects.

Continuously develop relevant skills related to this role such as the use of AI and media monitoring platforms.

Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED: 

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Marketing, Communications, or a related field. 

Minimum two (2) years of professional experience in digital communications, content marketing, or a related field.

Ability to produce and edit compelling, effective content with close attention to audience, goals, messaging, tone and accuracy.

Ability to produce content targeted to multiple audiences across the web, intranet and social media.

Strong time management and interpersonal skills.

Current knowledge of search engine optimization (SEO) strategies and best practices.

Ability to think strategically and creatively in developing and recommending potential content ideas.

Superior proofreading and editing skills.

Knowledge of AP Style. 

PREFERRED:

Working knowledge of photography, videography/editing, Canva, Adobe Creative Suite and content management systems.

Substantive knowledge of the higher education sector, including strategic communication programs.

Strong competency using Microsoft Office and Google Office Workspace applications.

Salary Range

$61,674.62-$67,847.09 Annually
