Digital Editor - NBC Bay Area

Comcast NBCUniversal has announced its intent to create a new publicly traded company ('Versant') comprised of most of NBCUniversal's cable television networks, including USA Network, CNBC, MSNBC, Oxygen, E!, SYFY and Golf Channel along with complementary digital assets Fandango, Rotten Tomatoes, GolfNow, GolfPass, and SportsEngine. The well-capitalized company will have significant scale as a pure-play set of assets anchored by leading news, sports and entertainment content. The spin-off is expected to be completed during 2025. NBC Bay Area is looking for a versatile and highly motivated bilingual digital news editor to write, create and curate content for our duopoly multimedia platforms. The digital news editor works closely with broadcast, assignment desk and mutli-platform news teams for both NBC Bay Area (KNTV) and Telemundo 48 (KSTS). The ideal candidate possesses great people skills, excellent reporting, writing and editing skills, as well as a passion for multi-platform journalism. We are looking for a self-starter who can get work done without extensive direction. You must have experience covering breaking news and trending stories, using social media as a reporting and engagement tool and publishing using a CMS such as WordPress. Job Responsibilities: • Report and write original stories for NBC Bay Area and Telemundo 48 digital platforms • Report and disseminate breaking and developing news quickly through website updates, push alerts, social posts and newsletters • Manage placement and display of content across all multimedia platforms • Use Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, X and other social media platforms to distribute our reporting and engage audiences • Edit broadcast video for digital presentation • Edit and enrich broadcast scripts for digital platform publication • Implement SEO best practices in written copy and headlines • Coordinate and manage live streams • Pitch and produce original content, including explainers • Collaborate with various departments, including our innovation team, on station initiatives and projects Requirements: • Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Journalism or related field or equivalent experience • Minimum 1 year of experience working in an online news publishing environment • Must be willing and available to work late nights, overnights, weekends and holidays • Strong news judgment and writing skills • Clean copy, extreme attention to detail • Proficiency in AP writing style • Experience working with a digital Content Management System (CMS) like WordPress • Excellent computer skills • Proven ability to write in a voice that is appropriate for a wide array of multimedia audiences Desired Characteristics • Fluent in Spanish (reading and writing) • Desire to work in a creative, demanding, highly collaborative and competitive environment • Ability to multi-task and meet constant tight deadlines • Experience working with TV newsroom software, show rundowns and scripts is a plus • Experience or familiarity working with livestreams and technical troubleshooting a plus • Basic understanding and demonstration of solid editorial judgment and journalistic ethics, including a current knowledge of laws of libel, slander and applicable FCC rules and regulations • Experience in San Francisco Bay Area market and familiarity with Northern California audience and communities • Good collaborative and interpersonal skills Eligibility Requirements: • Must be willing to work in San Jose, CA • Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States • Must have a valid Driver's License Additional Requirements: + + Required On-Site: This position is required to be performed full-time from an NBCUniversal-designated worksite.
