Northrop Grumman Mission Systems has an open opportunity for a Digital Ecosystem Lead Systems Architect as a critical direct report to the Digital Ecosystem Director. This position will be located in Annapolis Junction, MD; please note that the candidate selected for this position will be required to work on-site, full-time, at our Annapolis Junction, MD campus - this is not a remote work opportunity.

The systems architect will be responsible for the overall technical baseline and system design of the Digital Ecosystem.  The Digital Ecosystem instantiates an effective multi-site digital engineering development environment integrating various digital platforms, applications, and services, ensuring seamless data flow and enhancing user experience across our technological landscape. The scope will include virtual machine user environment, high performance compute resources, networking infrastructure, AI technologies, and Service Desk activities.  

The selected candidate will lead the technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for the total systems.  Analyses performed will include concept/scope, requirements, design, verification and validation, and transition to production.  The systems architect will perform functional and schedule analysis, trade studies, and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into optimal solutions, while taking into consideration technical, schedule, and cost constraints.

The Digital Ecosystem systems architect will work closely with senior management, project managers, program and enterprise architects, technical specialists, and the customer.  The successful candidate will demonstrate strong organizational and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, with all levels of management and individual contributors.

  


What You’ll Get to Do:

Design and support the development and execution of the Digital Ecosystem from a risk based approach.

Serve as an organization spokesperson on advanced projects and/or programs.

Develop and sell the technical vision that allows our enterprise data capabilities to scale, grow, and evolve.

Act as advisor to management and customers on advanced technical research studies and applications.

Application Integration design & architecture.

Influence strategic technical planning in support of long-term strategic plans.

Assist in identifying technology roadmaps to reduce program execution costs. 

Determine technical and business requirements in conjunction with the customer.

Manage requirements throughout the lifecycle.

Ensure architecture and design alignment with standards & strategic direction.

Develop feasibility, ROM, & committed pricing estimates including detailed basis of estimate.

Create scope, technical requirements, architecture, and design artifacts and specifications.

Establish test plans, requirements traceability matrix, and transition to production artifacts.

Ensure system validation is performed against requirements.

Perform as technical lead in providing solution alternatives for trade studies.

Lead technology research and development projects.

Implement security technologies to ensure policy compliance.

Lead Systems Engineering process optimization projects.

Provide As-Is and To-Be assessments and perform Gap analysis. 

Network architecture and design to include supplier integration, extranet design, and implementation.

Define Disaster and Recovery requirements and implementation (as needed).

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science degree and 16 years of relevant professional experience, or a Master of Science degree and 14 years of relevant professional experience, or a PhD and 12 years of relevant professional experience.

Candidates must have a current DoD Top Secret level security clearance (at a minimum), to include a closed investigation date completed within the last 6 years, or must be enrolled in the DoD Continuous Evaluation Program (CEP), in order to be considered; the required security clearance must be maintained as a condition of continued employment.

The selected candidate will be required to obtain and maintain SCI access and a DoD polygraph as a condition of continued employment.

Demonstrated strong foundational expertise in Information Technologies with subject matter expertise in at least two of the following areas:

Data Center designs and solutions, including on-premises and co-location solutions

Data center infrastructure including server hardware, storage, backup technologies, and networks

Server/storage/networking / client virtualization solutions

Operating Systems and application software including supporting database technologies

Application development and lifecycle management

Software as a service

Cloud technologies including external public and private cloud solutions as well as on-premises solutions

Information Security

Business Analytics

Mobility solutions
 

Success in leading and developing cross functional teams to drive accountability in performance at every level.

Proven ability to deliver effective communication verbally, written, and through well-crafted messaging, guidance, etc. across all levels of an organization.

Proven ability to create and maintain trusted relationships with internal and external customers (both government and commercial).

Proven ability to translate complex quantitative analyses into business insights.

Proven ability to successfully work across multiple organizations and projects toward common goals, and create trusted relationships.

Ability to apply advanced technical principles, theories, and concepts while contributing to the development of new principles and concepts.

Proven ability to provide total system perspective including a technical understanding of relationships, dependencies, and requirements of hardware, software, and service components for a project and its associated IT solution.

Proven ability to translate ambiguous objectives into tactical action plans and desired outcomes.

Trade Study leadership experience to support the evaluation of next-generation technologies, which will be utilized across our products.

Experience with and/or functional understanding of Model-Based Systems Engineering in at least one modeling language (SySML, UML, and/or DODAF).

Ability to travel domestically, at least 25% of the time.

Preferred Qualifications:

Familiarity with the Systems Engineering “V” and all phases of its lifecycle.

Familiarity with IT Solutions IEPG process or equivalent SDLC processes as well as with ITIL, NGC security requirements, services, and enterprise solutions.

Technical experience with Northrop Grumman SAP, Manufacturing Execution Systems, Engineering Solutions, Product Line Engineering, TeamCenter Enterprise, Mobile Applications, Extranet Solutions, or Collaboration Solutions .

Experience with or functional understanding of SCRUM, Extreme Programming Agile Methodologies, or Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe).

Salary Range: $206,900.00 - $310,300.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
