Now Hiring: Diesel Mechanic – School Bus Fleet

About the Role


First Student is seeking an experienced Diesel Technician or Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our team. In this role, you’ll work on school bus engines and play a critical part in ensuring our fleet is safe, reliable, and ready to transport students every day.

This position focuses primarily on follow-up repairs and fixing reported defects. The work will involve electrical systems, air conditioning, air brakes, and a variety of mechanical repairs on large diesel-powered buses.

What You’ll Do

Perform follow-up and defect-related repairs on school bus engines and components

Maintain and repair electrical systems, air conditioning, air brakes, drivetrains, and other systems

Troubleshoot and diagnose issues using advanced diagnostic tools

Complete work orders accurately and on time

Provide mobile emergency service support when required

What We’re Looking For

3–5 years of experience as a Diesel Technician or Heavy Equipment Mechanic (required)

Experience working on large diesel engines and heavy-duty vehicle systems

Willingness to obtain and maintain ASE certifications (training and exam costs covered)

Valid driver’s license and willingness to obtain a CDL (training provided)

Full mechanic’s tool set

Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous learning

Preferred (but not required):

Military maintenance experience

Fleet or bus repair background

Candidates re-entering the workforce

Those seeking hourly (not flat-rate) work

Additional Information


This position is safety-sensitive under DOT regulations. DOT Regulation 49 CFR Part 40 prohibits the use of Schedule I drugs, including marijuana, regardless of state law.
