DFS Diagnostic Design Specialist

In this position... 
The Design for Service (DFS) organization improves vehicle serviceability on next-generation Ford vehicle programs, platforms, features and components. This occurs through cross-functional partnership and integration with product development hardware and software teams throughout early development phases. The DFS Diagnostic Design Specialist is responsible for influencing the design of software-controlled systems and software-enabled features to reduce Cost Per Repair (CPR), resulting in future warranty cost avoidance and best-in-class cost of ownership. The DFS Diagnostic Design Specialist will develop solutions for: 

Self-Diagnosis Remote, Guided and Manual Diagnosis Repair and Maintenance

Solutions will apply the following technologies:

Prognostic Vehicle Health Alerts Cloud Assisted Diagnostics Predictive Repair Intelligence Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) Data Identifiers (DIDs) Human Machine Interface (HMI)-based Diagnostics

This specialist should be an expert in dealership technician diagnosis and repair processes across all vehicle systems. This will allow them to bridge the gap between diagnostic solutions for engineering purposes versus sustainable and repeatable diagnostic processes at dealerships and other service facilities. They should possess an understanding of modern automotive electrical and network architecture, and comprehensive knowledge of diagnostic scan tool functionality. 

The ideal candidate has the following:

4-year college degree or equivalent experience and education (Automotive Technology, Automotive Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering preferred) 5+ years of applicable work experience Key knowledge/experience preferred:  Domain expertise in automotive diagnosis and repair across a broad range of systems/components Familiarity and experience with automotive dealership service operations Working knowledge of Unified Diagnostic Services (UDS) or ISO 14229 Working knowledge of connected vehicle data and telematics Experience and ability to: Interpret electrical wiring diagrams, network topologies and feature boundary diagrams Learn and adapt quickly, apply critical and strategic thinking to introduce creative solutions Work cross-functionally across global teams to problem-solve against competing priorities Project manage and facilitate work groups to progress multiple workstreams at once

Even better, you may have...

Experience applying connected vehicle data to service-facing solutions Experience developing prognostic, self-diagnostic or remote diagnostic features Knowledge of Product Development processes including vehicle and software development production systems, and requirement repositories Knowledge of Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA)

This position is a range of salary grades SG6-SG8 .

The DFS Diagnostic Design Specialist’s core responsibilities are:

Proactively work with Product Development (PD) hardware, software, architecture, and feature teams to influence future designs for improved serviceability and overall customer service experience Engage assigned PD teams in early design milestones to increase the quality of repairs while reducing service cost by creating robust prognostic and diagnostic strategies that serve to reduce or eliminate diagnostic labor time Set and cascade targets for serviceability, assess status to target, and lead escalations Support delivery of the targeted warranty cost avoidance objective by submitting business cases for future warranty cost avoidance resulting from design improvements Identify/Champion resolution of High Impact Serviceability Actions Introduce new service requirements, identify improvements, and ensure service requirements are met or have an approved deviation Identify downstream service implications of new technology, such as diagnostic scan tool development, training development, service publication authoring, or field communications required Lead physical service trials and competitive benchmarking for assigned activities Support the development of Essential Special Service Tools (ESSTs) while optimizing repair level, process and component design to minimize tools needed Work jointly with global counterparts to provide an aligned voice of DFS
