Position Summary: Responsible for providing professional care for patients with implantable cardiac devices including pacemakers, defibrillators and loop recorders. Responsible for carrying out patient care in accordance with physicians' orders. Provides for the well-being of patients by assessing condition, providing treatments and documents progress and other observations in the patient chart. The Device Technician will be able to demonstrate the professional skills to evaluate patients with arrhythmias and the skills to evaluate patients with cardiac rhythm management devices. This position requires a highly specialized individual with knowledge of various manufacturers and models of devices and their functions.
Responsibilities:
Acquire, maintain and integrate new technologies as they evolve. Perform interrogations, evaluations, and reprogramming of all manufacturers’ models of cardiac rhythm management devices as well as the ability to troubleshoot in collaboration with cardiology and electrophysiology specialists. Review remote, trans-telephonic, and in-office evaluations and completes documentation according to hospital and office protocols. Run scheduled device clinic at the primary office as well as any satellite clinics. Provide patient and family education about their devices and device procedures. Function as a primary liaison between patients, staff and physicians. Triage phone calls and complete programming orders according to established protocols. Schedule clinic checks along with remote checks to ensure patients will be in the proper insurance billing cycle for the device they have. Provide patient and family education with appropriate documentation in EMR. Collaborate with the Cath Lab on all implant scheduling of procedures and physician orders for procedures. Assist in the Cath Lab with device implants performing device testing and programming during the procedure. Device programming and troubleshooting for hospital patients as well as device cardio-versions and post op checks on scheduled in patient procedures. Collects and assesses initial and on-going data about the health status of the patient. Initiates and/or revises an individualized plan of care that includes immediate and long-term outcomes for the patient/family and reflects the plan of the entire health care team. Carries out interventions safely and in compliance with policy to facilitate achievement of expected outcomes. Evaluates patient response to intervention/therapy based upon expected outcomes. Provides patient education by explaining procedures and giving instructions at a level the patient can understand. Addresses patient’s questions and concerns. Verifies patient informed consent when indicated. Documents and communicates all required components of patient care.Qualifications:
Required:
Bachelors of Science in a related field, or equivalent. Experience interpreting new and follow-up device checks, as well as basic EKG knowledge. Must have cardiology experience and a background in basic rhythm identification. BLS certification required or must complete BLS certification with in the first two weeks of employment.Preferred:
Prior experience in specialty field. Specialty certification. ACLS certification.Infection Control: Initial and Ongoing training in dealing with infection control. Trainings could include but are not limited to, blood borne pathogens, bodily fluids and bio hazardous materials as it applies to your daily work environment.
