Platform Application Engineer Job Description • Primary job responsibilities include handling of customer tickets on their x86 reference platforms and x86 based designs on a technical level. • Coordinate with internal teams and external clients to triage issues and act as a point-of-contact between them. • Participate in the testing, debugging, and development support on pre-release and official firmware release, both open source and proprietary. • Responsible for packaging, verifying, and documenting Firmware Support Package (FSP) releases to customers. • Develop and document custom functional modules for open source and proprietary firmware for x86 silicon products such as next generation processors and chipsets. • Assist hardware engineers in debugging critical issues as well as working with test engineering team to ensure product quality. • Qualified candidates must have good analytical skills and be able to produce documentation related to firmware design at both a high and low level. Skills Required • Strong analytical skills and debug methodology mandatory. • Experience in x86 architecture mandatory. • In-depth UEFI BIOS development mandatory. • Knowledge in various UEFI BIOS phases (SEC, PEI, and DXE) and their role in system functionality. • Knowledge in understanding board design layout, i.e. reading schematics and counter referencing them with the BIOS Writer's Guide (BWG), External Design Specifications (EDS), or related documentation. • Knowledge or willingness to work on Firmware Support Package (FSP). • Knowledge or willingness to work on Open Source UEFI based firmware a.k.a. Slim Bootloader (SBL). • Knowledge or willingness to work on various components of the Firmware Image (IFWI), e.g. Flash Descriptors, CSME, BIOS, etc. • Knowledge of industry standard initiatives (ACPI, SMBIOS, PCIE, USB, SPI, I2C, UART, SDMMC, EMMC, etc.) expected. • Knowledge of various subsystems in the PC (Boot to Different Operating System, Memory Management, Processor Features, Chipset Features, Bus Drivers (I2C, UART, PCIE, etc.), Power Management & Thermal, Performance, System Security, OEM Features). • Knowledge on using measurement tools such as oscilloscope, multimeter, logic analyzer, etc. • Experience with EDK2 Tianocore is a plus.
