Design Release Engineer - Valvetrain Senior
Job Summary:
Our client in Auburn Hills, MI is looking for a Design Release Engineer - Valvetrain Senior. This is a contract position.
What You Will Do:
Valvetrain & Timing Drive Design Release Engineer is responsible for engineering activities related to development of Valvetrain and Timing Drive components for gasoline engines.Activities include design, development, testing, manufacturing interface, and failure analysis. The release engineer will be a part of a team of engineers for problem solving, product improvement, cost reduction and other issues as needed.The Release Engineer will interact with all areas that touch the release of a component. This will include Purchasing, Supplier Quality, Engine Plants, Design Group, and Parts & Service.Some travel to engine plants and suppliers is required.The Design Release Engineer must be a motivated self-starter, willing to work in a fast-paced environment.Essential Functions:Participates as a team member on various engineering projects. Must be a team player able to manage multiple priorities while considering the inputs from a variety of stakeholders. Resolves technical issues based on engineering analysis of camshafts, camshaft phasers, rocker arms, valves, valve seat & valve guide inserts, valve springs, timing chains, timing guides, and tensioners. Plan and coordinate test execution (through utilization of engineering tools such as DFMEA’s and DVP&R) and monitor progress and results.Analyzes test and measurement data creating summaries with data-based conclusions and makes recommendations to the team.
Basics:
A minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited school or equivalent.A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience working with design and manufacturing of powertrain components. Valvetrain or timing drive preferred.Understanding of valvetrain/timing drive components and related manufacturing processes, i.e. steel stamping, machining, grinding, heat treatment...etc.Understanding of product development documentation such as, DFMEA and DVP&R.Understanding of Mechanics of Materials, Engine cam timing, CAE Analysis, and GD&T.Experience in selecting materials and manufacturing methods for mechanical components.Ability to author system/component level requirements.Strong interpersonal communication, team/leadership skills/experience.Strong oral and written communication skills.Strong project management skills/experience.Demonstrated understanding of structural analysis and failure modes of complex mechanical systems.Preferred:
Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering.Working experience in creation and execution of validation plansCritical character traits to ensure success: Action Oriented, Dealing with Ambiguity, Customer Focus, Problem Solving.Working experience with 3D cad programs, preferably Siemens NX.How You Will Be Successful:
