The Job You Will Perform:

International Paper’s Design Internship is intended for Packaging degree-seeking students and will offer a personalized and diversified, on-the-job development while providing exposure to our company’s commercial business strategy & culture. Students will acquire real world experience as they are exposed to various areas of the commercial design organization and to provide efficient and effective design solutions to help drive IP’s overall strategy.  The internship will take place between May and August. Students will participate and be responsible for project work related to analyzing, developing, and implementing solutions that improve the performance of processes, with an emphasis on full customer satisfaction, safety and commercial excellence. Each location will have specified projects and deliverables that will be established prior to the beginning of the intern experience.   Design Intern reports to the Design Manager and will receive training to learn the trade of corrugated structural design. In addition to project work, the successful candidate will work closely with the local designer on design solutions to gain a competitive advantage, ensuring standardization of processes, and improving process efficiency.  Work safe Provide customers, plants and sales with prototypes designs to ensure acceptance of solutions.  Utilize CAD software to develop solutions.  Maintain and organize design lab.  Provide design ideas and solutions to commercial organization as well as customers.  Maintain a safe and clean working environment by understanding and practicing safety guidelines at both IP and customer facilities.   Maximize value to IP and the customer through efficient use of resources, albeit at a plant, complex, region, area and corporate wide level.  Develop and create innovative packaging solutions  Assist plants in the optimization of fiber utilization and point of purchase display thru understanding board characteristics, plant mix, equipment specifications and most importantly, customer needs and expectations.  Ability to balancing expectations of internal/external customers, ultimately delivering win/win value to both. 

 

The Skills You Will Bring:

Qualified candidates will be pursuing a BA/BS degree or higher in packaging design, graphic design or mechanical engineering  Must have a strong knowledge of CAD, Project Management & Microsoft Office software  Mechanically competent & support changes in technology  Good communication & interpersonal skills to ensure effective working relationships  Minimum GPA requirement for this role is a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or greater  Candidates must have the drive, initiative and a desire to work in a manufacturing setting while achieving commercial objectives Applicants must be at least 18 years old in order to be eligible  Customer Focus  Action Oriented  Problem Solving  Priority Setting  Decision Making  Creativity  Technical Learning  Time Management  Presentation Skills
