Work Arrangement​​

This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the GM Tech Center in Warren, MI on a full-time basis.

General Motors is seeking a Staff Engineer/Safety Specialist with responsibilities of the integration of fabrication and manufacturing technologies and associated safety protocols and requirements. In this role, you will institute corporate workplace systems and represent Design Fabrication as the lead safety representative on numerous committees and responsibilities. This is an integral role in creating a safe work environment for all employees.

What You’ll Do (Responsibilities):

Assist in driving successful planning and execution of the safety aspects of Global Manufacturing System (GMS) principles and elementsSupport the DCF strategy for procurement and implementation of technologies and equipmentAssist with benchmarking and integrating numerous fabrication technologies along with directing projects through: Finance, GPSC, ICC, Engineering, GM Workplace Safety and SuppliersProvide status reviews to departmental managers regarding timing, cost, and progress of various projects both verbally and through appropriate presentationsExhibits a safety mindset while identifying, taking ownership, and resolving safety concerns and supporting the safety champions of each space in Design Center and GM PartnersAdvise leadership on continued development of safety and health cultures and initiativesUnderstanding of Corporate Safety Systems and OSHA StandardsCollaborate on SOR’s, Benchmarking and Sourcing Documents, Facility Requirements, participate in G-Risk and G-Comply Safety Reviews and understanding of Safety Contract ManagementMaintain project financials, spending curves, forecast to actuals and present findings to Design Financial and DCF LeadershipProvide on-site coordination of contractors, suppliers, ICC, and UAW staff during construction, installation, and initial startup of new or refurbished equipmentAssist with the implementation of safety related initiatives to reduce job related injuriesLead G-Risk and G-Comply safety assessments and validation, assure compliance with Safety Contract Management initiatives, document and retain all pertinent recordsAssist with the site Safety Risk Rating Evaluation for all new machinery and equipmentProvide safety and technical support to Application Engineers for all projectsAnalyze safety statistics, develop recommendations, and present to staff and leadershipRepresent Design Fabrication on Health & Safety committeesSupport TIS, SOP and SFEMA completion with responsible supervisors and team leaders


 



Additional Job Description

Yours Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):

2+ years of professional experience in industrial or electrical engineering or related field

Bachelor’s Degree, BSIE, BSEE, BSME or equivalent educationStrong analytical/problem solving skills with capability to identify solutions and present recommendationsExperience with participating or leading safety initiatives for complex concurrent projectsExperience in working within corporate safety systemsDemonstrated ability to manage a high workload, while being very innovative and displaying outstanding initiativeExperience in coordinating/delegating tasks among the various team members for multiple safety requirements and initiativesHigh level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with othersProficiency with Microsoft Office Suite software (Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint, etc.)Experience working in a manufacturing or fabrication facility and understanding of shop safety protocols and related technologies i.e…. machine tools, robotics, industrial controls, measurements systems etc.…

Strong interpersonal skills in facilitation, negotiation, and issue resolutionExperience in working with UAW or Skilled Trades resources
