Cat has powered crucial engineering and logistical operations in every major conflict since WWI. **Job Summary:** As a **Design Engineering Specialist** , you will be a contributor to the planning, concept, development, and design of complex components, subsystems, or processes within Caterpillar’s Defense Team. You will have the opportunity to perform analysis of concepts, development, and design of complex components, subsystems, or processes while strengthening your analytical skills and mastery of engineering concepts. You will contribute to the planning and delivery of projects, continually learn and stay abreast of innovative technology, and communicate technical information in a concise and accurate manner. **What You Will Do:** + Develop design parameters, performance characteristics, and technical specifications of products and components that satisfy customer needs and advance safety, quality, velocity and cost. + Guiding the evolution of the technical design, technical project planning, detail design, and development testing. Participating in supplier selection and capabilities assessment. + Monitoring, exploring, and testing new technologies, materials, and components to understand product or process improvement opportunities. + Constructing and fabricating prototype equipment; overseeing materials selection, process optimization andprocess yield, as well as reliability testing and failure analysis. + Collaborate with suppliers and monitor and evaluate supplier quality. + Success factors for this position include strong communication, spatial and conceptual design skills, and an understanding of customers’ needs for specific product applications. + Assist in the integration of ILS considerations into assigned programs. + Work closely with and communicate concepts and results to customers, suppliers, team members, and other business units.
