About IPSD:

Caterpillar’s Industrial Power Systems Division (IPSD) designs, tests and manufactures 0.5 to 18L engines that not only power Caterpillar machines, but also power over 5000 other applications including Marine, Petroleum, Industrial Applications, Electric Generators, and Locomotives. Caterpillar’s company strategy includes sustainability as one of four focus areas and IPSD is engaged and actively preparing green energy solutions for the future.  

Job Summary:

As a Design Engineer for the Aftertreatment Design Group, you will be part of a cross-functional, high performing team and develop products that make our world cleaner by meeting new and existing emissions regulations. You will work with industry leading experts to solve problems and deliver high quality, compliant emissions control components and systems. You will collaborate with a global team to develop innovative solutions while strengthening your analytical skills and mastery of engineering concepts. You will contribute to the planning and delivery of projects, continually learn and stay abreast of the latest technology, and broaden your professional network.

What You Will Do:

Design development of innovative aftertreatment concepts and cutting-edge solutions for new and existing products

Develop and maintain defect free aftertreatment compliance documentation

Factory and supplier support including deviations, lean alerts, CI cards and BIQ

Identify and resolve technical, commercial, and program-related issues affecting quality and implement process improvements

Manage design projects, working with internal and external partners to meet specified time, cost, and quality objectives

• Uses flow charts, Pareto charts, fish diagrams, etc. to disclose meaningful data patterns.
• Collects and analyzes test and simulation data, applying industry expertise to guide design decisions.

Effective Communications: Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.

• Effectively performs the technical job aspects, continuously building knowledge and keeping up-to-date on technical and procedural job components.
• Applies technical operating and project standards based on achieving excellence in delivered products, technologies and services.
• Applies current procedures and technologies to help resolve technical issues in the area of aftertreatment design.
• Helps others solve technical or procedural problems or issues.

• Experience with Creo and Teamcenter (or equivalent CAD tools)

• Engine or aftertreatment design / development experience preferred

• Familiar / proficient with quality systems and tools preferred


Education: Bachelor’s of Science (Or equivalent) preferably in an accredited Engineering curriculum.

Additional Information:

This position is located in Mossville, IL and requires a 5-day-a-week onsite schedule

Summary Pay Range:

$95,640.00 - $143,520.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
