**Role Definition**
Caterpillar’s Drivetrain team designs drivetrain systems and components used across Caterpillar machines and OEM applications. The Structures, Castings, and Forgings team designs many of the parts used within those components. Those parts include axle housings, spindles, planet carriers, cases, clutch and brake components, amongst many others. The team is also a centralized resource for designing and validating drivetrain components that are exposed to ground-induced structural loads. Our team provides design leadership through the entire lifecycle of the part, from concept to production implementation to production maintenance and supporting our end customers.
This specific role includes:
+ Completing mechanical design tasks under the direction of a senior engineer.
+ Initial work will be on planet carriers, differential carriers, and internal torque converter parts. But potential to work on other part types in the future depending on needs.
**What you will do**
+ Create new designs that meet all technical and business requirements.
+ Complete stress, deflection, spline, and bolted joint design analysis tasks using standardized tools and processes.
+ Review deviations to assess if nonconforming parts are acceptable to use.
+ Review PPAP documentation for completeness and to ensure all risks are mitigated.
+ Participate in CPPD and APQP activities with CAT and supplier team members.
+ Coordinating print changes with detailing and releasing teams.
+ Provide engineering support to local assembly facility.
**Degree Requirement**
+ Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Agricultural, Manufacturing, or Aerospace Engineering
**Skills you must have**
+ **Analytical Thinking** : Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems.
+ **Effective Communications** : Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.
+ **Managing Multiple Priorities** : Knowledge of effective self-management practices; ability to manage multiple concurrent objectives, projects, groups, or activities, making effective judgments as to prioritizing and time allocation.
+ **Technical Excellence** : Knowledge of a given technology and various application methods; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges.
+ **Computer-Aided Design & Engineering** : Knowledge of tools and techniques of specialized graphics programs; ability to produce, analyze, simulate and test product design drafts.
+ **Product Design - MFG** : Knowledge of processes, approaches, tools and techniques of product design; ability to convert customer and market requirements into product design.
+ **Product Design and Development** : Knowledge of product features; ability to design, build, and develop a new product, technology, or service from concept through to production.
**Top Candidates will also have**
+ 3+ years of job-related work experience
+ Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
+ Proficient in Creo modeling and stress analysis.
+ Experience designing cast and/or forged components.
+ Demonstrated use of DFMEAs, APQP, and PPAPs.
**Additional Information**
+ This position will close 8/27/2025 at 11:59 pm.
+ The location for this position is East Peoria, IL (Building KK) or Decatur, IL and requires the employee to work a 5-day-a-week schedule onsite.
+ Relocation (domestic) assistance is available.

**Summary Pay Range:**
$95,640.00 - $143,520.00
Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
