This position is assigned to the National Laboratories Partners of Canada (NLPC) contract to assist the Director, Head of Health Safety Security and Environment (HSSE) by accepting the delegation of responsibilities and by managing assigned HSSE tasks.
Job Qualifications/Requirements:
+ A bachelor's degree in engineering, business, or other relevant discipline is required . An advanced degree in a relevant discipline is desired .
+ A minimum of 20 years of relevant experience is required.
+ The ability to obtain and maintain a Canadian security clearance is required .
+ Experience working with AECL or other Canadian regulatory bodies is desired.
+ Must be able to receive a Canadian Work Permit .
+ Must live in or be willing to relocate near the Chalk River Site .
Job Description/Duties:
+ Serves as the Director, HSSE when he or she is absent.
+ Assists the Head, HSSE by accepting delegation of responsibilities and by managing assigned HSSE tasks.
+ Maintains and applies a detailed understanding of all HSSE missions, challenges, and potential solutions, including successes and lessons learned from HSSE efforts in both Canada and the United States.
+ Assists or leads planning, scheduling, and coordination of tasks, resources, and timelines to ensure the successful execution of projects related to multiple CNL sites.
+ Supports the Head, HSSE, to ensure the successful implementation of strategies to accelerate progress, enable long-term planning, and advance liability and risk reduction.
+ Supports oversight of very large complex projects, reviewing risk mitigation and large costs trade-offs that impact speed of delivery.
+ Helps ensure compliance with Canadian laws and regulations, contract requirements, and CNL policies and procedures.
+ Develops HSSE plans to enable and ensure success of ongoing laboratory operations.
+ Helps manage resources and workforce needs to ensure safe and cost-effective completion of project objectives.
+ Engages with a diverse and broad range of stakeholders and right holders, working with the Head, HSSE and other senior leadership to establish strong, two-way communication with AECL and the regulator, the general public, local and host communities and Indigenous Nations and communities, among others.
+ Helps to identify problems and challenges in decommissioning and waste management, collaborating with employees and senior management to collect data, anticipate challenges, and respond in a timely and decisive manner, while putting preventive measures in place to mitigate future issues from reoccurring.
+ Works with the Head, HSSE, and other staff to identify the roles that are needed to support the HSSE mission and proactively develop a comprehensive and creative strategy to attract and retain talent.
+ Assists in developing strategies that achieve risk mitigation and hazard reduction while being protective of the environment, cost effective, and considerate of stakeholder and rights holder perspectives.
+ Performs routine assessments of HSSE staff and processes, implements corrective actions and provides oversight of improvement initiatives.
+ Fosters continuous improvement based on industry best practices, adapting strategies that leverage best-in-class trends and lessons learned at CNL and other sites in Canada and the United States.
+ Adapts to challenges by identifying and resolving issues promptly, making informed decisions to ensure project compliance, scope, schedule and budget.
+ Performs additional duties as assigned by Director, HSSE.

The base salary range for this position in [[stateProvince]] at the start of employment is expected to be between $[[cust_salaryMin]] and $[[cust_salaryMax]] per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits.
