Position Summary
Come join our high-performing Team! SUNY Geneseo is seeking a Deputy Controller who is proactive, focused on critical thinking and analysis to help support financial operations across the College and the Geneseo Foundation. Reporting directly to the Controller, this role is designed as a pathway to leadership—preparing for potential of succession to higher level positions while helping to drive financial efficiency, compliance, and strategic planning.
The Deputy Controller will play a key role in refining financial processes, maintaining internal controls, and optimizing budgeting strategies. With a focus on long-term sustainability, financial modeling, and cross-departmental collaboration, this position will contribute to institutional financial health and evolving fiscal policies and practices.
Required Qualifications
+ Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field or the equivalent education and experience. Military experience will be considered.
+ Extensive experience in financial management, accounting, or higher education/not-for-profit budgeting and finance.
+ Demonstrated ability to analyze financial trends, optimize operations, and lead process improvements.
+ Demonstrated results in working across complex agencies and delivering results –often with time-sensitive goals and with changing priorities.
+ Excellent communication and leadership skills, with a collaborative mindset.
+ Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive working/teaching environment
Preferred Qualifications
· SUNY experience or similar system/agency experience
· Not for profit experience
· Master’s degree in related field
· Certified Public Accountant

Help to lead all accounting and financial operations for SUNY Geneseo ensuring accurate reporting and compliance

Assist with development and implementation of multi-fund budgets and multi-year financial plans for the core academic enterprise, residence hall operations and other fee-based self-supporting operations.

Supports budget development and financial planning processes, providing in-depth analysis for forecasting and institutional strategy.
