Job Description
This position serves as support to the Division’s FOIA Coordinators in the administration of the centralized FOIA program. This includes assisting in the handling of the high volume of more than 10,000 FOIA requests annually that the division receives as needed. These duties include using the Department’s FOIA request system, assigning, closing, and filling FOIAs and communicating with staff and the public to meet tight regulatory timeframes.
This role is also responsible for reviewing, evaluating, preparing, and releasing official records for public access that are generated by the Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy (EGLE) Remediation and Redevelopment Division (RRD). It includes ensuring that regulatory requirements are met for official records being distributed to the public, that retention schedules are adhered to, and that policies and procedures for records archiving are followed.
The position is also responsible for reviewing and evaluating documents received from the regulated community to determine whether all submittal requirements have been met and communicates with the submitters if documents do not include required information. After determinations are made that the submitted documentation meets regulatory requirements, this position then adds the documents to the records management system for further scientific review and data analyses.
