Dental Assistant

Job Description:

The Dental Assistant performs those duties which assist the dental director, dentists, and hygienists in the care and treatment of patients. Performs duties in the field of reception, chairside assisting, inventory and records

Essential Job Functions: 

Assists the dentists and hygienists in chairside procedures routinely done in a general dental practice.

Preparation and setting up of instruments, materials, and equipment.

Orders and maintains supplies and inventory.

Accurately records information on patient records.

Attends to the needs of patients with the utmost patience, care, compassion and understanding.

Is responsible for preparation and setting up of instruments, materials, and equipment necessary for each procedure; 

Is responsible for the sterilization of instruments, and the cleaning and routine maintenance of equipment and work areas; 

Helps to identify related medical and/or social problems, orders supplies and materials; 

Maintains inventory of supplies and materials as well as maintaining thorough and accurate documentation of inventory. 

Responsible for completing the task of a  Dental Assistant as outlined by the American Dental Association, the Missouri Dental Board, and the National Network of Oral Health Access.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Experience and Education Qualifications:

Graduation from high school preferred, but not required.

Maintain current CPR certification.

Previous experience desired, but not required.

None

Employment Requirements:

Must provide evidence that incumbent is free of infectious and contagious disease, such as TB, prior to beginning employment and annually thereafter – expected for all direct care staff, but mandatory for RCF staff.

Successful completion of background check including criminal record, driving record, abuse/neglect and fingerprint check.

Completion of New Hire Orientation at the beginning of employment.

All training requirements including Relias at the beginning of employment and annually thereafter.

Current driver’s license, acceptable driving record and current auto insurance.

Physical Requirements:

ADA Consideration - Sedentary work:  Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally (exists up the 1/3 of the time) and/or a negligible amount of force frequently (exists 1/3 to 2/3 of the time) to lift, carry, push, or pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body.  Repetitive movements of hands, fingers, and arms for typing and/or writing during work shift.

Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.  Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.
