In this role you will perform a broad range of customer projects with a variety of engineering programs. The role will work on leading edge defense projects for large and small customers with aggressive timelines. To be considered for this role you will have working knowledge of Microsoft Office. You will have a Bachelor's of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent. Job Summary: The Defense Mechanical Engineer will perform a broad range of customer projects with a variety of engineering programs. The role will work on leading edge defense projects for large and small customers with aggressive timelines. This mid-level role will be engaged in the understanding of the customer"s unique component design, validation, and release needs. The Mechanical Engineer will perform independent project tasks and collaborate with customers and team members. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: * Design of components and systems within an integrated project team led by an engineering lead or program manager. 30% * Engage in prototype development activities to take designs and make real world functional components and systems to support development and testing activities. 20% * Plans, estimates, schedules, conducts, and coordinates the technical aspects of engineering projects. 10% * Present progress, challenges, and next steps to internal and external customers. 10% * Read, understand, and adhere to Military standards. 5% * Maintains the technical aspects of engineering projects within allocated budget and schedule limits with internal and external customers, stake holders and team members. 15% * Manage the quality, cost effectiveness and timeliness of designs. 10% * Mentor Entry and Junior engineers. Education and Experience (required): * Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent. * Minimum of 6 years of engineering experience in the defense or automotive industry. * U.S. Citizen * Must have ability to obtain and maintain at a minimum Department of Defense "Secret" Level Security Clearance Education and Experience (preferred): * 4+ years of experience in the defense or automotive industries. * Experience with currently fielded ground combat vehicles. * Automotive development engineering experience. Skills, Knowledge and Abilities (required): * Knowledge of complex mechanical systems (hydraulics, pneumatics, electrical motors and actuators). * Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite. * Excellent verbal and written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey complex technical data to various audiences. * Hands-on troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with the ability to provide robust solutions to complex problems in a timely and cost-effective manner. * Proficient in general computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite * Able to obtain a security clearance if required. Skills, Knowledge and Abilities (preferred): * Knowledge of DFMEAs (Design Failure Mode and Effect Analysis), DVPs (Design Verification Plan), DFM (Design for Manufacturing), FEA (Finite Element Analysis), OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) release systems and procedures, vehicle dynamic evaluations, 2D drawing development and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) application and bolted and welded joint applications. * Knowledge of DFMEAs (Design Failure Mode and Effect Analysis), DVPs (Design Verification Plan), DFM (Design for Manufacturing), FEA (Finite Element Analysis), OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) release systems and procedures. * Knowledge of vehicle dynamic evaluations. * Knowledge of 2D drawing development and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) application and bolted and welded joint applications. * Proficiency in software suites Creo, PROe (Pro/Engineer), or MATLAB. * Functional proficiency with CAD (Computer-Aided Design) software SolidWorks, Siemens NX UG (Unigraphics), CATIA, PROe (Pro/Engineer), Creo, or MATLAB. * Knowledge of component, system, and vehicle testing, including subjective and objective evaluations.
