Position Information Posting Number 20113133 Position Title Dean, College of Engineering FTE 1.0 Position Type Staff Department College of Engineering Dept Position Summary Information Job Summary/Basic Function About This Role: The purpose of this position is to direct and oversee the daily operations of the College of Engineering and multiple research centers, interface with industry and business leaders on behalf of the President, and interact with State and Federal Senators and Representatives on behalf of the President of Lamar University. What You’ll Do – Position Responsibilities: + Supervising the operation of the department within the division to carry out the mission of the University. + Overseeing divisional and departmental budget, development, and expenditures. + Supervising the recruitment, induction, and retention of personnel, including professional development and evaluations of Chairs. + Reviewing faculty evaluations and making tenure/promotion decisions for divisional faculty. + Providing leadership in the development of new technical programs and the revision of existing programs. + Managing curricula and research activities creatively. + Coordinating accreditation activities and managing the research activities of the college. + Supervising scholarship activities and advancing new technology by communicating with community and industry leaders. + Securing resources to implement new programs or revisions, facilitating the approval process and coordinating business/industry partnerships for program delivery. + Managing and coordinating the functions of the Office of Sponsored Programs and maintaining industrial partnerships with multiple companies. Key Competencies: (KSAs – Knowledge Skills and Abilities) + Management and Monitoring: + Overseeing work performance of multiple budgetary departments. + Evaluating program/work objectives and effectiveness. + Establishing broad organizational goals. + Realigning work and staffing assignments. + Executive Interaction: + Engaging with executive-level management (president, vice presidents, deans). + Supporting controversial positions or negotiating sensitive issues. + Preparing important presentations and documentation. + Interacting with community leaders, elected officials, and other governmental and educational leaders. + Policy Development and Implementation: + Making and/or recommending final decisions regarding policy development and implementation. + Exercising participative management skills to support team efforts and quality processes. + Operational Autonomy: + Performing duties within broad parameters defined by organizational requirements and accepted practices. + Ensuring end results determine job performance effectiveness. + Technical Expertise: + Possessing comprehensive, practical knowledge of a technical field. + Utilizing analytical judgment and decision-making abilities. + Budgetary Responsibility: + Having final approval authority for at least one division/departmental budget. + Approving fiscal/budgeted expenditures up to a certain limit requiring senior management approval. + Professional Licensure: + Requiring licensure as a Professional Engineer. Physical Requirements: Able to lift 25 lbs and be able to perform a variety of physical tasks including lifting, bending, stooping, squatting, stair climbing and walking between buildings. Job Conditions: This position requires working in a standard office environment, with occasional evening or weekend hours to accommodate university events, meetings, or special programming needs.
