This position serves our partners at the Department of Corrections (DOC). The MNIT DOC team runs many unique applications that manage the information and security of the department, supporting 4,500 employees across 10 prisons and 50 field offices located throughout the state. **_This position is temporary and includes full state fringe benefits; it is anticipated to last for up to three (3) years._** As a Database Administrator for Minnesota IT Services (MNIT) and the Minnesota Department of Corrections (DOC) you will ensure the efficient, secure and reliable operations of the Minnesota Department of Corrections database systems across on-premises and cloud environments. This includes, but not limited to, a broad range of relational database administration activities, such as planning, installing, monitoring, configuration, troubleshooting, performance tuning and patching the system software necessary to support business needs. You will be responsible for data integrity, availability, security and implementing backup and recovery procedures, and provide database administration activates to SQL Server and Oracle databases under limited technical direction. You will also work closely with project managers, other database administration resources, application administrators and developers to support the database and application environment. **This position requires an employee to be onsite at 1450 Energy Park Drive, Suite 200 St. Paul, Minnesota at least 50% of the time, with some opportunity to perform work from a telework location:** + Telework (https://mn.gov/mmb-stat/policies/1422-telework-2025.pdf) for Minnesota IT Services is available on a limited basis. + Candidates residing within 50 miles of the work address listed above are eligible for telework. + Candidates residing 50 miles or more in Minnesota from the work address listed above may be eligible to telework more than 50%. Experience must include: + SQL and relational database management systems (RDBMS) concepts. + PowerShell and/or equivalent scripting language. + Remote access software, such as Bomgar. + Ability to deliver effective verbal or written messages that facilitate a mutual understanding on both parties. + Customer service skills that include active listening, empathy, and problem-solving. A master’s degree in Information Technology or an IT related field substitutes for three (3) years of experience, OR an IT related bachelor’s degree substitutes for two (2) years, OR an IT related associate’s degree substitutes for one (1) year. **Preferred Qualifications** + Ability to learn and utilize multiple systems and complex software + Knowledge of relational database management systems (RDBMS) such Oracle, MySQL, or PostgreSQL. + Understanding of backup and recovery strategies, performance tuning, query optimization, security and access control. + Knowledge of monitoring tools such as SolarWinds. + Knowledge of cloud computing database environments such as SQL Managed Instances. **Physical Requirements** **This position is primarily remote but may rarely require onsite work at a Minnesota Correctional facility. Responsibilities could include lifting and moving devices up to 40 lbs., transporting equipment between locations, and working in small spaces such as under desks. Strict adherence to MNIT and DOC safety protocols is required.
