About the job

The Data Platform Team is looking for a Database Management Platform Administrator. You will be responsible for all aspects of our hosted data platform environment. You will work collaboratively with customers, analysts, developers, and other implementation team members to engineer enterprise database installations and to manage, diagnose, debug, design, and prototype SAS and third-party enterprise class software systems. You will support the MAS and R&D team with training, expertise, mentoring and best practices with respect to data platform technology and architecture.

 

The Data Platform team supports hosted customer environments in the SAS Managed Cloud. We use the latest database technologies to support a variety of SAS solutions for our customers. Our division is fast paced and fast growing.

 

As a Data Management Platform Administrator, you will:

Perform Installation, configuration, management, and monitoring of various database systems.Perform upgrades, scripting, task automation, backups/recovery.Ensure that databases conform to security and privacy controls such as Canada Protected-B.Create and maintain engineering documents, system designs and operational procedures.Use your experience with monitoring systems and diagnostic tools.Perform SQL and performance tuning at all levels.Development, adherence, and enforcement of security standards and policies.Ability to learn other database technologies as supported by the Data Platform Team.

 

Security Clearance Requirement:
Candidates must be eligible to obtain Canadian government security clearance to work with Protected-B data. This involves a thorough background check that covers the past five years and may require the candidate to provide personal information and undergo security assessments. The successful candidate will need to maintain this clearance throughout their employment and will be required to work in a protected space, either from our offices or at home, in alignment with the requirements specified in the customer contract.

 

Required qualifications:

You’re curious, passionate, authentic and accountable. These are our values and influence everything we do. Bachelor’s degree in information systems, Computer Science or a related field.At least 5 years' experience as a database administrator in Oracle and at least 1 of the following: PostgreSQL, or MS SQL Server.Experience with PERL, Python or other shell/batch scripting languages.Proficiency in Unix, Linux and Windows Operating Systems.Equivalent combination of related education, training and experience may be considered in place of the above qualifications. Fluency in English. Additional proficiency in French is strongly preferred and will be considered an asset. 
Ability to work a 24x7 on-call rotation.

Preferred qualifications

Experience working in Protected-B, FedRAMP, NIST 800-53, or other high security environments. DBA experience in more than one of the following: Oracle, MS SQL Server, and PostgreSQL Based RDBMS Systems. Experience with databases in Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services and Google Cloud. Experience with SAS software. Experience with Oracle Database Vault. Experience with PL/SQL or other database procedural language. Experience with Oracle Data Guard. Experience with Oracle Exadata, Oracle RAC or other database HA solutions.
