Data Strategy Co-op - New York - College Program 2026

We are seeking a talented individual to join our Data Strategy team at Guy Carpenter. This role will be based in New York, NY. This is a hybrid role that has a requirement of working at least three days a week in the office. Our co-op program is full time (40 hour commitment per week) and runs from January to June 2026.

This exciting co-op opportunity offers you a chance to play a key role in shaping data-driven initiatives at one of the world’s leading risk management and reinsurance firms. Within our dynamic Data Strategy group, you'll contribute to the design, analysis, and execution of innovative data work streams across multiple high-impact projects. Operating with a “start-up style” mindset within a $2 billion organization, our team is dedicated to rapidly enhancing the acquisition, storage, analysis, and monetization of vast amounts of client, internal, and third-party data—driving value and insights across the entire Guy Carpenter organization.

As a member of the Data Strategy group, you will collaborate closely with data analysts, scientists, engineers, product managers, and stakeholders from various internal teams. This role provides a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in software engineering and advanced data manipulation within a fast-paced, collaborative environment. You will contribute to streamlining data collection and analysis processes and support impactful analyses on a wide range of quantitative and qualitative topics, helping to shape strategic decisions and innovative solutions.

We will count on you to:

Design, build, and deploy custom data pipelines that power machine learning models, generate insights, support client benchmarking tools, create business intelligence dashboards, and develop innovative data productsUtilize multiple large datasets to drive revenue growth by developing new products in collaboration with the Data Strategy team, while also enhancing the delivery and functionality of existing offeringsIntegrate data from diverse sources such as relational databases, APIs, cloud storage (NetApp, AWS, Azure), FTP servers, and formats including Excel, CSV, XML, Parquet, and unstructured dataConstruct and maintain robust data pipelines connecting internal and external data sources to the data lake, implementing modern quality assurance practices with automated validation frameworks like dbt and Great ExpectationsContribute to team development standards through code reviews, comprehensive testing (unit and integration), and continuous monitoring to ensure high-quality, reliable data workflowsConduct exploratory data analysis and develop or refine machine learning models to support the creation and enhancement of Data Strategy products, enabling data-driven decision-making

What you need to have:

Pursuing a Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in a technical field such as Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, or a related quantitative discipline, or demonstrated ability to quickly learn new software and analytical conceptsA strong academic record; relevant work experience is a plus and can sometimes outweigh the specific field of studyExcellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of conveying complex ideas clearly to colleagues at all levels within Guy CarpenterExposure to technologies and programming languages such as Python and SQL

Prior experience with software best practices, including DRY coding, unit and integration testing, and thorough documentationFamiliarity with modern containerization and deployment tools like DockerExperience working with big data processing frameworks such as Apache SparkHands-on experience in a modern, agile Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) environment, including CI/CD pipelines across development, quality control, and production stagesProficiency with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or AzureAbility to consume and integrate data from REST APIsDemonstrated strong analytical skills and intellectual curiosity, evidenced through academic projects or professional workExperience working in an Agile environment, supporting rapid and effective delivery of team goalsKnowledge of risk evaluation modeling or experience building data productsExcellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to foster strong internal relationships, collaborate effectively within a team, and contribute to both technical and non-technical discussionsA genuine desire to learn quickly, adapt, and add value to team initiatives
